Unlocked iPhone 2g bluetooth can't find or connect to anything

When I turn on the bluetooth on my 2g iPhone that is unlocked/jailbroken, it says it's discoverable and searching, but it can't connect to my Magellan gps, nor can it see any other bluetooth device. I tried to connect to my friend's ipod touch to play a game and they couldn't even see each other either.

Is this a known problem or is there something I can do to fix this?

What firmware are you running? Make sure that you are updated fully, and if you are you can restore it, and rejailbreak/unlock it with redsn0w.

It's on 3.0. I haven't upgraded to 3.0.1 yet.
