I'm giving my son an early generation iPhone as a gift. I want to unlock/jailbreak before giving it to him so it's ready to go. My question is, can I use my SIM card from already unlocked iPhone, or do I need to have the SIM card from his current T-Mobile phone to unlock. I presume I can use mine to unlock since we both have T-Mobile SIMs. It will be alot easier to surprise him If I don't go fish around for his SIM card while he's asleep.

I only have T-Mobile service. I unlocked my own phone with pwnage using a T-Mobile SIM card in it. I'm not sure if that made a difference or if I could have unlocked with no card in it at all, but I know an AT&T card is not required. My question is do I need to use the SIM card that will be used in it, or will my SIM card work as a substitute to unlock and then pop his in after it has been unlocked.
Nah, no SIM card is required to unlock. And it doesn't matter if there's yours or his in there as none are required.
And I suggest not putting Installer or Cydia on there unless he's techy or he might end up installing something that's BETA or Buggy that will mess up his phone.

Thanks for responding. You actually touched on another concern I had. I don't want him to have Cydia. When I unlocked mine, it loaded Cydia which it seemed like it did automatically. So you're saying I can unlock without jailbreaking? Is that an option in pwnage? Guess I should go back and look.
In Pwnage, deselect Cydia and Installer, as well as the Custom Boot and Recover screens. You end up with a phone that looks and acts like standard-issue Apple, except it's unlocked.
