unlocked via pwnage but barely any service

i unlocked my gen1 iphone via pwnage with a 1.1.4 restore file and it barely gets any service. i am trying to use t mobile. it will have what seems to be one bar then say no service at all. i made sure to check activate, enable baseband update, neuter bootloader, and unlock baseband. but i read somewhere if you restore your old backup it could make something break? is this true? was there something i should have done? thanks

Yes it would be the only thing. Unlocking doesn't drag down your service. Unless you get another iphone on Tmobile and place it side by side with yours to see which gets better service.
