I am from the UK, I have a friend in America who is going to bring me back an Iphone in the next couple of weeks.
I would like to know if there is any difference between the modem firmware in the 1.1.2 iphones sold in the states and those being sold in europe. And if so are people having more success unlocking the AT&T iphones than the O2 ones?
Unlocking it would be the only way that I could consider this device, excellent as it is. Apple had an opportunity to genuinely shake up the mobile market by reducing the control that carriers have over their customers and the manufacturers that make handsets for them, to the benefit of the consumers.
Instead they chose to increase the control that carriers have over their customers and at the same time force them to pass extra expense onto the consumer by taking a share of the revenue generated while using the device. It is a revolution in the mobile market. But one that only benefits apple.
The fact is that if I Put my Vodafone sim in an unlocked Iphone I would get all its features bar visual voicemail, but would be paying £10 less a month than the cheapest 02 contract, would be getting 3 times as many free minutes twice as many txts and 150mgb of internet.
