I have tried searching the solution to this, but I can't find anything to work.

I have just upgraded my 1.1.4 phone to 2.2. I used DFU mode first, to have a clean 1.1.4 install, then used iTunes to update to 2.2 and activate it. I am on O2 in the UK. That all worked fine and I have a working 2.2 phone.

I now used QuickPwn to jailbreak and unlock, followed the iClarified tutorial. Everything apparently went fine. I am jailbroken and can get into the phone from WinSCP. But the phone is not unlocked. When I put in my Tesco PAYG sim, I get the message "Different SIM Detected, please connect to iTunes."

I can see from the threads that lots of people have this problem, but I haven't found any where the OP says, thanks, that fixed it.

The only thing I can think might be a clue is that if I open Bootneuter on the phone, it freezes after showing the settings as 3.9, Neuter=On, FB=On, Unlock=On. Can't force-close it, I have to reboot with Home/Power.

Anyone know how I get from where I am now to having both my O2 and my Tesco sim cards working? Thanks.

Do a DFU restore to stock firmware (not pwned, just stock.)

Once that's completed, build a custom firmware with BL 3.9 and an unlocked BB.

Flash that to the phone (again, via DFU), and you should be golden.

I've used a 2G iPhone on both O2 and Tesco PAYG (which, by the way, is just a MVNO using O2's towers) with no issues.

OK, I resolved it. This time I restored to 2.2 and did not activate the phone before I ran QuickPwn. I ran it with the unsupported SIM in it, not the O2 SIM. QuickPwn activated the phone as well as unlocking it.

So if you get the message "Different SIM Detected, please connect to iTunes", run it all again starting from DFU but do not let iTunes activate the phone before running QuickPwn.

So quickpwn can hacktivate the iPhone 3G also? I wonder why there aren't any screenshot or even youtube videos about quickpwn hactivating the iPhone 3G

Lets say someone has an iPhone 3G locked... And this iPhone 3G happens to be in the hand of a foreigner(sent to him by his friend), how is he gonna activate(I'm not talking about unlocking it, but the activation that shows a usb cable and the iTunes logo on the iPhone screen and emergency call as the only function of the phone) the phone (which is still sealed in its box)

Can't say for the 3G, I posted this thread about my 2G. However, there's an iClarified tutorial here that is about the 3G jailbreak and unlock: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=2538, plus there's plenty of stuff on this thread.

However, QuickPwn did activate my 2G phone, starting from the USB Cable logo on the screen. If you read the forum though, it sounds like you might be better to jailbreak the 3G with Pwnage tool rather than QuickPwn. Hope that helps.

Thanks for replying, but I already read this tutorial at iclarrified, but still they only mention activate the 2g iPhone, but there's nothing for the iPhone 3G :S
