Hello to you all. As you may know, as of December 1st, Canadian providers sell unlocked phones with 24 months terms and/or unlock the phone you have with them for free. My provider Fido unlocked my 5s OTA but for finishing the job, I have to make a backup via iTunes or iCloud, restore iPhone to original settings then restore with the Backup. This is the step that is upsetting me: my 5s is running 10.3.3 and I don't want to upgrade to iOS 11. Will iTunes or iCloud install iOS 11 before restoring my apps and datas that I just made a backup of. Option: if I have a non-Fido SIM, I insert it in my iPhone and "follow the instructions" which I have no idea what they will be. Can someone give me a hand please. Anyhow I want my 5s to be unlocked.
Thanks for all. R.

There's been no need to restore since 2011.

Put in a different SIM. If it's really unlocked you'll be asked for your Apple ID and password.

Yes, this is true. The entire "back up and sync" thing is for no reason. I have unlocked carrier phone before (yes i paid) and just pop in another carrier sim card. it will prob ask to update carrier settings, that all. No need to restore the entire phone

Hi and thanks so much. Forgot to tell I got the information from here https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201328.
So if I understand well, my 5s is now unlocked due to the OTA magic my Provider did to it yesterday. Problem is, I have no way of checking this up: I have no non-Provider working SIM at hands.
Apple was supposed to be pushing an OTA update to all iPhones in Canada removing all SIM locks.

We should follow up on that story....it's here somewhere.

Edit: Appears the reseller (Wow!) was talking out of their ass: https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/11/01/...cked-via-over-the-air-update-on-december-1st/

Anywho +1 for not having to setup as new and restore....shouldn't be needed after the carrier has pushed their unlock through Apple's servers.

Hi again, I used the IMEI number to find out if my 5s had been unlocked by my provider when he sait he did so OTA. IMEI.info sent me back an email. Here it is.
