Hi,

I am traveling abroad next week and would love to use my iphone while there. Can I unlock using ziphone before I leave and relock back again when I get back? And how safe is it to do so?

Apologies, if this question has been answered before.

Thanks in advance.

PS. Version 1.1.4
Firmware 4.4.5 G

Yes, you sure can.

But, if you have bootloader 4.6 ziphone will downgrade it to 3.9. The bootloader can not be upgraded at this time only downgraded. If you already have 3.9, you will have nothing to worry about.

Thanks NeoMayhem.

I unlocked my iphone. Used my coworker's Tmobile sim to check it. So far all seems good. However, Nextel sim didn't get signal.

I will be relocking back once I get back. Hope, things will be as smooth as it was today.

ziphone works great. Thanks.

so people with the 4.6 bootloader are basically screwed or actually just cant refurbish :(

If you are on bl 4.6 you can downgrade to an old baseband firmware and stay at 4.6, or downgrade to the hacked 3.9 bootloader that can be upgraded later, and run the latest baseband.

I have a 3.9 phone, so I am pretty much stuck for the time being. The bootloader version does not make any difference, except that 3.9 is easier to unlock for now.

Filex: Nextel uses iDEN/CDMA, not GSM like the iPhone.

How does one find out which version of the boot loader s/he has?

see phone serial, 4th and 5th digit, they'll make up a number like 50, meaning week 50 (of 2007).

if it's anything up to week 45, it's 3.9, and 45 onwards, it's 4.6. but you should check if you have 4.6 if you're around week 45. (there's this thing you'll have to install from installer - or a command you have to type in terminal - do a search)

unlocking is safe with ziphone 2.5 with bootloader 3.9, and can be restored back to factory settings on AT&T - you'll just need to activate it again with itunes.

Hi all,

Yesterday I noticed that youtube is not working. I did some searching and found a thread saying that I needed to install youtube activation. Did that. Still no youtube. Any hints, ideas?

Thanks in advance.

honestly, since you don't get the iphone features like visual voicemail with a hacked phone i found it easier/cheaper to simply buy a local sim card and use it on an old gsm phone.

just synced my contacts to the old phone and used it for calling. and used the iphone for wifi only. disadvantage is that youy have to carry two phones.

what is the real advantage of a hacked iphone just for traveling?

Thanks iSamurai for your response.

It says Cannot connect to YouTube everytime I try to use it.
