Unlocking OS 3.0 post-3.1 release

I'm trying to unlock my iPhone 3G with Pwnage tool(version 3.0). Once it makes the custom ISPW file, it tells me to restore my iPhone to it with iTunes. But when I open iTunes, it wants to download 3.1 and restore to that..

If I download 3.1 will it still let me restore to the custom ISPW? Or is there another way around this?

You can't jailbreak with 3.1, yet......

I know but I'm just trying to jailbrake 3.0

Refuse the 3.1 download.

Hold down shift (Windows) or option (Mac) when you click restore, and it will ask you which ipsw file you want to restore to. Choose your custom file in that dialogue.

Thanks that worked. However I'm getting an error every time I try to restore, about 5 minutes in.

What's the error? It may be that you need to rebuild the custom file if something went wrong.

It says the error code is "1614", which on apple.com just bring ups general advice like restart the computer, use a different USB port.


Thanks for that tip, I'll trying rebuilding the ISPW.

Of course to rebuild the ISPW I would have to first get it out of restore mode..thus meaning upgrading to 3.1


Owell I think I'll just sell it locked(i'm only jailbreaking to sell it on ebay anyhow).
