Is there a cheap way to do this process?

Think we need a little more information than that. Is this regarding:

- Activation lock (Find my iPhone)?
- Carrier/ cellular lock?
- Passcode lock?

Wasn’t thinking.. Carrier unlock.

Which carrier ?

And which carrier are you trying to be on?

I don’t think the cdma side of things can be unlocked but any carrier phone that isn’t stolen or on bad financial terms should be able to be unlocked with rSim interposer and the right iccid

It’s locked on Verizon and when I put my Tmo sim in it says “sim not supported”. I ordered some sim thing that goes under the SIM card, not sure if that’s what you’re talking about.

Yep it has to be one that can edit iccid tho , not all do I don’t think but a lot do.

You can GSM side Unlock it using an iccid code. Google “parrotgeek iccid” the guy finds random ones that work so the phone is unlocked without needing the sim thing that goes in between

It unlocks your phone unless you restore it with iTunes. OTA Updates it persists.

Pardon my ignorance (it's been quite a while since I visited the JB section), but does this require JB and will it work on the Xs when it's released. Would like to be able to carrier unlock the Xs I ordered through AT&T's Next plan.

Won’t require jailbreak

Can’t say if it will work with xs or not

I don’t understand enough/any of what’s happening on the backend to speak about it. Not sure if new models will work or not

Hmmm - ok. Thank you. So I can just google "parrotgeek iccid" and find out everything I need to know about this?

@thadoggfather Just wanted to say thank you for posting about parrotgeek iccid. I was able to easily unlock my brand-new XS and it cost me all of $10.

What carrier / how’d you get a locked XS?

I know there were contract deals for x but same thing this year ?

Good to know r-sim works w XS and that flipped sim tray

I’m just the messenger! I actually found out about this on redmondpie which is generally trash but led me to investigate further

If you ota unlock preserved if you restore you have to re do it and hope a code works stil l

To be clear this initially requires an R-SIM, but allows you to remove the R-SIM when complete, correct?

And you have to do it again after an update and restore, also correct?

Just seeking clarfication. I'd call this a semi-untethered unlock if this is the case. :)

It's an AT&T phone that I ordered on my Next plan via Apple.

You are correct about being able to remove the R-SIM when you are done unlocking it; however, I'm not sure if you havet to re-do the process after updating your phone (thought you only had to do it after a restore). I did just update my phone to 12.0.1 today so I will pop in my non AT&T sim and see if it's still unlocked. I will report back in a bit.
[doublepost=1539458786][/doublepost]Just confirmed that my AT&T XS is still unlocked after updating to 12.0.1.

I’ve Just bought XS Max from ebay. It’s Locked to At&t IMEI is clean but I can’t remove simlock via site becouse phone is still in contract.

Will R-Sim 12 work ?

Will be glad for help.

Should work just fine if the imei isn't blacklisted.
