Unmountable boot volume

So I'm reinstalling xp using our corporate copy and I get the message
during install

: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".

Now I followed the instruction on the apple faq but the option to erase the drive with the Zero Out Data security option in the disk utility is greyed out. Theres no erase option at all. Everyones away so I thought I'd try here.

Anyone got any tips to try?

In some cases, the Windows installer may incorrectly consider an erased volume with stale NTFS/FAT32 data as a valid filesystem. To fix the volume, start the computer using Mac OS X and use Disk Utility to erase the Windows XP partiton with the Zero Out Data security option. This option can be found under Security Options in the Erase pane of Disk Utility.

I'm having a similar problem. I have successfully installed XP Home on a Boot Camp partition, including the Mac Drivers. But when I try to upgrade to XP Pro with our corporate licensed upgrade disc, I get the same error message.

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".

I also can't zero out the partition as the Apple FAQ suggests. I've partitioned it as NTFS. When I get that screen, I can't restart without disconnecting the power and removing the battery.

If anyone else knows how to solve this problem, I'd appreciate hearing.

Here's what's going on and how to fix it:

Boot camp provides support for installing XP from a full license service pack 2 disk. Period. Upgrade disks don't work... as you've just discovered.

Also: you won't be able to twiddle the disk from Windows as it's now FUBAR. I really hope your XP Data's backed up because you're about to lose what remains of it.

So:

Hold in the Power Key for 5 to 12 seconds (depending on model), this shuts the machine down from open firmware (EFI) , no drivers involved.

Boot your machine(s) holding down the option key (immediately and before you boot).

Select OS X.

Start up Boot Camp and select the "restore to one volume" option.

Restart.

You now have an XP-free machine to do a fresh install on.

Run Boot Camp as you did initially and re-install XP.

Don't do that again.

There's so little difference between XP and XP pro that you're better off with Home unless there's a specific reason you need XP Pro(IE: If you can't name the specific differences between Home and Pro you don't need Pro).

Unmountable_boot_volume

I have a Mac Mini, it was set up by someone else to Run Windows XP. It has been working flawlessly until a couple of days ago. Now it gives me the error message when trying to start..Unmountable_boot_volume. It will run and works fine when started in Mac OS. What is the easiest fix for this problem? Please help
