iPod Unplayable mp3

Hope you ipod ninjas can help me with a problem i'm having with an mp3 song file.

I have this one mp3 song that will play ok on Itunes on my IMac but when I transfer it to my Ipod classic it wont play. If I try to play it, or if it comes up in my playlist, I get the album art, perhaps half a second long, then the Ipod will go onto the next song as if it had sucessfully played the last one!!

I think the mp3 file is of because if I try to play it with VLC, it plays and sounds fine.

If it plays on an iPhone, then it is probably a Quicktime file containing mp3 inside. Which is absolute standard but very rare and not all players support it. If it plays on your iMac, try to convert it to a different format, or even to mp3 again. (In iTunes, click on the song, File menu, "Create new version").

Just because VLC will play it doesn't mean you are out of the woods just yet. VLC will play just about anything! I have had many files over the last decade that would only play on VLC and everything else would puke

I second the suggestion to get it into a new container. It could simply be something about the song is corrupted just enough that many players ignore it, but some get hung up.

Important thing is that iTunes can play it. If iTunes can play it, then iTunes should be able to convert it to something that anyone can play.

It is quite unusual to have MP3 inside a container; MP3 files are usually just "naked" MP3 files. MP3 in a Quicktime container is part of the Quicktime standard, but so rare that many tools won't play it. I know an iPod Nano doesn't, but iTunes and an iPhone do.

In iTunes, right click on the file, and convert it to a new file.

Once converted, it'll transfer to iPod.

Simplest way is to drag and drop in iTune library and convert to aac format.
sync/ drag & drop new aac file to your iPod.
this will work.
