2019 MBA 8/256.

On prior versions of macOS when I'd open the lid of the laptop it was always ready to go. With the latest version of Catalina, I find that there's a 50/50 chance that I will need to press the power button to get it to wake up.

I also find that I need to keep rebooting the machine or it gets super slow. RAM pressure and CPU utilization don't show anything abnormal, but everything from starting apps to response when clicking links in the browser is very slow. Typically, I only have Chrome and Keynote, Numbers, Preview running.

Anyone else have either of these problems?

My 2019 mba 16gb, 1tb exhibits similar issues as yours. When it has been asleep for an extended period of time and I wake it up, the screen is turned off. I have to press the power button to wake up the screen. I think it is a software bug inherent in Catalina. Didn’t have that issue in Mojave as long as I could remember. Hopefully subsequent releases will fix that. Rest assured you are not alone.

After installing 10.15.1 I was hoping this bug was fixed. But I'm displeased to report that this bug still persists.

Would be interested in what happens on a clean install.

There are corroborated reports of AV products, firewall, affecting performance and functionality.
