since the new update i haven't been able to make it past about 10 minutes of streaming airtunes from my iMac -- streaming music from the Apple TV itself is great, works perfectly.

i run an N network off of an Airport Extreme, and have no problems at all with anything . . . except for this! if i choose my AppleTV as my speaker in iTunes, by itself or with the computer, it cuts out.

what am i doing wrong?

it didn't do this before 2.2 or 2.3 -- at least i didn't notice it, and this is the sort of thing that i would notice.

thanks

Well, it's not a universal problem as I can't reproduce it here and I have a similar configuration: Mac Mini wired to Airport Extreme, wireless to Apple TV running the latest Apple TV software, V2.3 build 426. To be fair it's only about twelve inches from the AEBS to the ATV, but I've run out of Ethernet ports on the AEBS...

I'm not sure what you mean here. Streaming music from the Apple TV to what?

If I were in your shoes I would eliminate wireless links one at a time in an attempt to isolate a possible loss of signal.

By any chance did your neighbors get a new microwave? Streaming music and movies die whenever my microwave is on. Makes movie watching a chore when you want to nuke some popcorn to go with the show :D

i have DSL modem->Airport Extreme->Apple TV
my iMac is wirelessly connected

the Apple TV is streaming from my iTunes (i.e. custom syncing, streaming only)

it's intermittent and only happens when i select my apple TV as a speaker in iTunes, not the other way around, i.e. selecting music on the AppleTV side.

ha -- i will check and see if that is the issue -- my Airport Extreme is set on channel 11 and it works when selecting music on the Apple TV and streaming from my iTunes -- why would it cut out if i wanted to use Apple TV as an Airtunes speaker?

I have never posted on a forum before so excuse the lack of techical terms. However I feel the need to share my fix with (i guess) a lot of others who have had the same problem as me with AirTunes and it cutting out ALL THE TIME.

First how I run my music. I run a PC server at home/ studio which holds my iTunes music library files and music files. I load the library file into iTunes on my MacBook (which I work on). I have external speakers connected directly to the MacBook which supply the studio end of home with enough sound.

However I have one of those white bricks that can supposedly extend your wireless network and stream your iTunes to it. It does extend my network (it is connected though an Ethernet to the local router) however if I try to stream music to it.. The music cuts out every 10min as with other cases in this forum.

The solution (if you have the computers) I Just bought an old 12" power book G4 (12"G4) (fantastic computers and wish they continued this screen format) I bought it purely to play music in the "house" (rather than the studio) end of the House.
I leave iTunes open on my MacBook and open a blank library (local library) on the 12"G4 as you can share the open library on the MacBook I load that on the 12"G4 (password protected) it takes a while to load (300gb music) but once loaded.. i can stream music to the White brick (from the 12"G4) with out cuts directly from iTunes. This solution also works using Airfoil (a program that lets you stream music to the White brick from any chosen program) if you want to stream your system audio.

As I do all music management on the MacBook this solution suits me fine for now.

Hope this helps some one. \laters peeps

MBP having the issue

I've got this and it seems to be my MBP (early Intel) that has the issue. AE (N) connects to TC. MBP plays fine when cabled to TC, iMac plays fine cabled too, but also wireless. No difference if wireless connection to AE or TC from the MBP.

Bummer - just started happening, no obvious external cause!
