Backstory on the issue:
Yesterday everything was working fine on the latest version of iOS prior to 11.2.5. I saw the update, and downloaded it. When it asked me if I wanted to install it, I clicked the later and entered my password. Within 10 minutes, the screen became unresponsive. It still vibrated for notifications, the unlock button would display the screen, the lock icon would unlock for face ID, but I couldnt swipe up.

So I let my phone sit there, and after about 2 hours later it started to work again! for a few minutes... but thankfully I was able to click the install of iOS11.2.5, thinking that would have been the fix. Unfortunately after the restart, nothing changed. Screen still unresponsive. Throughout the day, it worked for about a minute each time, but nothing long...

Resolution attempts:
1) Reboot - Pressed Vol Up, Vol Down, Hold Lock button to restart the phone... many times... no change.

2) Restore with Backup - Backed up iPhone on (latest version) of iTunes and did a restore to the latest version of iOS with absolutely no luck. I got to see the HELLO screen, restore in progress, and restore successful, I was able to get to the home screen, but shortly after there was no screen response.

3) Fresh restore - Thought maybe whatever is wrong was also backed up. So lets do a fresh restore to see if its fixed. This was even worse! I couldnt get past the HELLO screen at all, 0% responsiveness under this condition. Now Im starting to think its hardware.

4) Waiting for Apple Store appointment... Friday...

Anyone else face these issues? My alarm went off this morning and I cant turn it off! All I can do is snooze it with the volume buttons. Ive restarted it too, but the alarm keeps returning. Any way to simply turn the phone off without using the screen (without restarting)?

[Update] Apple has determined it was a faulty multitouch sensor, so they replaced the screen at no cost and it works like a charm! Ill need to buy a new screen protector though, but I cant complain!

That’s unfortunate. I updated my X through iTunes and my Air2 OTA. Both worked perfectly and I haven’t had any performance issues. Only difference in to two installs was it took longer on iTunes..

I had this same issue. Screen became totally un responsive did all the same steps as you outlined, and currently left with a phone I can't use. I am awaiting a box so I can send it to apple to be checked out.

Just as a note. I updated to the current OS when it was released, and this issue happened quite some time after the update.

It sucks that it randomly happens! My issue was determined to be hardware, something wrong with the multitouch sensor. Apple did replace the screen at no cost though so its good! If none of those steps worked for you, it could likely be the same issue.

Apple did replace them”digitizer” on my phone. Works now, but for some reason the 3D Touch in the keyboard that allows you to select text or move the cursor no longer works.
