Unstable volume in iTunes4

Is anyone else having this problem?
During playback of songs the volume subtley pulls in and out of intensity. I started noticing this as soon as I downloaded iTunes4.

It might take a great system and a discerning ear to notice, but it's enough to drive me nuts.

Same here

I've noticed it too. I'd be listening to iTunes 4 and the song would get quieter and then go back up to to volume that I had it. Apple will fix it as soon as people start reporting the problem.

I've noticed it to, with AAC files that seem to have a vast variance in sound, and particularly where there's periods, however brief, of total silence. It seems to react to changing total volumes by ratcheting its sampling volume up or down, then quickly reacts as the song's volume adjusts.

Just a guess, but annoying. I haven't tried to listen on the iPod to see if the same thing happens there with AACs, but I will.

I hope it's an iTunes thing... I'd hate to have to rerip my CDs once Apple fixes this.

This problem affects my MP3's. I only have one AAC song in my library and i haven't noticed if the problem has affected that song in particular.

I've noticed a problem where somehow the sound goes to one of the speakers and when i check the system preferences the sound is either more to the left or right without me even touching this.

HMMMM....not sure where all of you have been, but there was a longgg forum about "problems with iTunes4" that mistly discussed these issues.

for alot of people the easiest way around it was to go into the preferences -> effects -> sound enhancer and turn off the sound enhancer.

it basically flattens out the sound, but it does seem to stop the fluctuations. the sound enhancer seems to really be needed more for headphones as opposed to speakers. i personally prefer the sound with it on, but for now it stops the annoying fluctuations.

iTunes 4 issues.

I've had 3 problems with iTunes 4.

They all happen randomly, and never to the same song.

1. The Sound will all of a sudden stop by itself, the only way to fix it is to push the volume up key.

2. The Speaker Balance will change itself a little to the right without my changing it.

3. The Volume during a song will slightly fade for a 30 seconds or so, but the returns to normal.

also, which I imagine is a software/hardware problem.. if I hold down the volume key up or down it freaks out, and goes down, then all the way up, half way, down, up, then very loud..

Volume Problems

This happened to my girlfriend too! However, I noticed that she installed iTunes 4 and opened it BEFORE she installed the Quicktime 6.2 update. I had her install the quicktime update, and then reinstall iTunes 4. Everything seems to work fine now. I don't know if reinstalling iTunes 4 will mess up any store purchases though. I am not sure what the actual problem is, but this seemed to work, and no the sound enhancer was not the problem.
