Have a 2019 MacBook Pro. Today received message "browser no longer supported". Read it can cause security issues. Which browser do others load onto their Macs? Thanks in advance.

Also which anti-virus should I use due to possible security problems?

I'm guessing you got a popup from a site that was trying to get you to click on something to install it's own malware.

Alterantively you really are running an out-of-date browser. One easy way to check:

In which case options for latest browser depend on which OS you are on. Are you still on the original Mojave or Catalina? If so your options are limited. Orion and Firefox ESR probably best available still-updated options.

However, unless you have a specific need (e.g. 32-bit apps with Mojave) or preference (e.g. pre-Big Sur UI) for those, you should ugprade (to at least Monterey but since it won't get upgrades anymore perhaps Ventura or otherwise Sonoma). The latest Safari available for recent macOS are reasonable.

Either way I still like Orion. Firefox with uBlock Origin and similar can also be a good setup.

Hi there,
Thanks for your response. I'm a complete technophobe but the pop up just appears when on FB. When I click on link it takes me to options for other FB browsers which include Safari which has just recently been updated. Think I panicked, almost bought an anti-virus package but believe I don't need to. Happy to be corrected. The pop-up doesn't appear on any page except Facebook.

Apple has released two new updates, one for Sonoma 14.6 to 14.7 which updates Safari, and the new OS Sequoia which also updated Safari
