Unsure - move on to Android or not.

So I love the ease of use of my iPhone and the fact I can pretty much work most features/notifications settings how I like them.
I don’t use much FaceTime, don’t use iMessage at all, I don’t use iCloud but I do like backing up the device to the computer and being able to move my info to the new device.
I’m not a fan of almost every app costing money and having to buy music vs. and android device that usually offers most of these options at no cost.

So I’m here debating on moving to a Samsung device, one of the S8 or Note 8 models. I’d get a better screen, longer battery life, more options to customize the device, and More free apps/music.

I’m only torn due to the fact that I don’t hate the iPhone and I’m thinking once I get the Samsung I hope I don’t make a mistake. Sure it can back up via a cloud that I don’t use as well but outside of that I can’t really see too much that is keeping me with Apple. The fact that the S8/S8+/Note 8 May have more customization settings than I’ll use (take the camera for instance) is the only downside if you’ll call it that, that presents it self.
Before I make my decision is there anything else I should consider?
Any thoughts?
(I also know the forum I’m asking this on, but I’m looking for a reasonable discussion to make sure I’m making a solid decision)

All you can do is give it a go and see.

Leaving apple watch is too tough to me. Certainly with the new siri watch face i love how i have all my meetings in one scroll.

Perhaps you could find a store that has a return policy which works for you.

I started with android devices and I ended that with the Note 5, far too much lag for me to enjoy.

After hating the idea of an iphone for many years, I picked up the 6s and the ios experience was too smooth. I don't think I can go back to a touchwiz device in particular.

What apps are you using that cost money? Most apps I use are free.
You don't have to buy music from Apple, you can copy music you already have onto the device too using iTunes.

Does Samsung (phone) really have longer battery life? What kind of free apps/music are you looking for?

See the only thing I use the AW watch for is so I don’t miss any important alerts on my phone and fitness tracking.
I don’t use Siri really. The fitness tracking was a plus for me. I also enjoyed being able to set my phone down at work and still be able to know if I get a call or text or even being outside doing yard work. I’d probably still have a watch either way I go.

That’s originally got into Apple. I started with a Samsung Fascinate at the time and the thing was amazing but it froze all the time and had a choppy user experience. I switched to the 4s and was not to thrilled with the apps/music and being able to do phone updates at the time. The phone seemed locked down but it was smooth. I got rid of the 4s after a year or two and went to the Samsung galaxy 3, loved the phone for the most part but then it became super slow and lagged like crazy. This was not early on but almost after two years of use.
After all of that I said it’s Apple time, I switched to the iPhone 5s and the iPad mini back in 14. Don’t use the iPad much but I wil keep that to have as I like it for what it does mainly as far as exploring the iNet. The 5s was a good phone no complaints and I upgraded to the 6s for the larger display. Same thing solid phone.
Only reason I’m thinking of switching is all the silly quirks Apple has in their iOS updates (no more toggle off BT or WiFi via the control center when it was always there???, pics out of order from date taken??, no app lock or security??)
Those are the things that aggravate me.

I know the Samsung will have its quirks but once I think you get all the settings/options down you should be good.

Any app you typically go for to use full features cost money. Yeah I can copy my music as I’ve done that. It’s a big of a chore. With android I can simply download whatever song I like for that days. Either way I’m leaning more towards streaming because I can just find what songs/playlist I want to hear. I don’t really tap into my previous music files that much.
I will say I think Apple has that section on lock because I’m sure trying to move and sync music from android wouldn’t be a great experience.

Give the Note 8 a try. It's stable, fast, and has good battery life. If you are getting from a carrier, the carriers have at least a 2-3 week return policy if you don't like it. I know my carrier(T-mobile) has a 20 day return policy.

The on screen battery life is definitely better on both the S8+ and the Note 8.

With SideSync, backup is not an issue, whether from your computer or direct from another phone.

The feature on the Note 8 seem endless. You sure won't have to deal with iOS restrictions any more.

95% of all cross platform apps are equivalent in performance and usability. SnapChat and Pokemon Go are probably the only ones that get the complaints.

Since you don't use iCloud or iMessage, it should be an easy transition for you, as that's really the big thing that holds most people back.

As far as using a Gear Watch ..... IMO .. the design, display, user input(rotating bezel), widgets, AOD, auto sleep detection, and etc, make the Gear S3 superior. But the app integration is superior on the Apple Watch. So if you're the type that doesn't need every app on your phone to have a watch app, then you'll be okay. The UI on a Gear Watch is just as polished as on a Apple Watch.

My advice for first-time Android would absolutely be the Pixel phone not Samsung not LG no way for your first time on Android, only go stock Android from Google. I'd grab the Silver color Pixel XL from like eBay for a good price to try it out.

The only postive for me of google over samsung is updates. Everywhere else to me it has no other major reason to dump IOS for android unless you go for samsung. That gives you the most features and the different side to what the user is used to. Otherwise you might as well stay with apple

sofascore .... I doubt it, probably just alternative apps.

music app .... Not Apple Music, although I never tested if I can control it from my watch while it's playing. Google Music, allows only control from the watch while streaming from the phone. Spotify is great on the Gear S3, even has offline playback.

live scores app .... Not sure if it has your specific app, but it does have some score apps.

pocketcast app .... I don't think so, just limited control from the watch of any podcast app on the phone.

Thats the issue those are apps i use a fair amount and really going from apple watch to gear S3 would be a letdown. For people who aren't bothered about apps just having it for Notifications is very good

I’m going to make a decision in the next couple days/weeks.
Either stay with Apple and get the 8+, switch and get the s8+, or wait it out and see what the X brings.

Firstly, what kind of watch are you looking for? This because I really wanted the iW3 but will now be purchasing a Garmin VivoActive 3. My needs are primarily waterproof, GPS fitness watch. It has great reviews and between 7-14 days battery life. If you want a watch with storage for music on it, perhaps the Fitbit Ionic coming out very soon.

I made the leap to Android, primarily Samsung about 4-5 years ago and have not been able or tempted to come back until the recent release of the iPX, I made a post about this though called Off the Fence!!!

All of that being said, things to consider is transferring data to your iMac if you use one, i.e. Photos, there are work arounds required, but they are not deal breakers, esp if you use drop box or any other cloud based storage that you can drag photos into the Photos app.

It took me at least 3 months to warm up to the operating system, which has IMPROVED greatly. Then I started having fun with it and realizing how much was available to me with Android OS.

The only thing that DOES bother me is the updates, it takes a bit for the newest to come across due to carriers having to test/modify the update, and they are less than motivated to keep up imo. That being said, I go by the rule that if I love the way the phone works when I buy it, I can patiently wait for new bells and whistles. They are a bit faster with security issues, but still not as good as Apple.

I just bought the Note 8 and am so far loving it. No buyers remorse at all. And you have no idea how much i wanted that AW3.
