Unusual icon

On my wife's iphone, next to the battery icon, is a small telephone looking icon with 7 dots beneath it. The manual doesn't document this. Does anyone know what it is?

My iphone, otoh, has a small clock that indicates an alarm is set.

Edit: Check your voicemail, it might be that?

That would be the TTY icon.
To get it off, go to Settings>Phone>TTY and slide it to Off.
