Hi all, just wondered if anyone has similar experience. I bought new iMac and even with fresh install I get this screen for a second just after waking up the machine. The machine has to be in sleep mode for at least a minute and I can reproduce this anytime upon waking it up. What do you think? Is this a "cosmetic" problem that does not need attention? I have gone to apple Genius bar, they wiped the machine and did a fresh install. One test and no problems, but when I got back home I did a retest and it came up... no other software had been installed. One important environmental condition is that the Display setting is Scaled and I clicked the left most box with "Larger Text" underneath. So this is only happening at this Scaled resolution, no other.

If it's "new" --- take it back to a brick-n-mortar Apple Store and have them look at it!

I did. The "engineer" first used it to log in to their server, issue didn't show up. Then going back to normal boot with particular Display setting to Scaled "looked like 1600 x 900", the issue shows up without fail. Then he wiped the HDD and reinstalled from the shop's server. Issue did not show it seems so I took it back home. Then believing that it has been solved I booted up but by chance I had to leave immediately and go out, upon returning and waking it up, the issue shows up again. The only thing I have done at that point was created an Admin and demoted the original user to Standard user. All those other Apps like Garage Band, Pages, Numbers, Keynote etc had not even been "updated" (or I think, installed/initiated or whatever) they have blue dot on them in Launchpad.

I spent weeks being on hold about using the iMac while I communicated with Applecare about it. Since I believe it was defective in some way I didn't want to use it.... fortunately I have an older PC to use meantime.

After 2 months +, in the end I am just now told that the Engineers determined that it is "purely cosmetic and that it had no bearing on the overall functionality".

This machine is from brand new cosmetically defective. Who would knowingly buy such a machine?
