Unusually high temperature on macbook??

At the moment my Core Duo macbook is sitting next to me idling on the desktop and the CPU is at 90 degrees celcius. Surely this can't be normal. It's never been this high before, and it's been like this for the last hour. The fans are going and the temperature isn't dropping.

I'm worried it might be the battery because it's been taking a lot longer to charge since just coming back from being fixed for a broken dvd drive.

Is this something that's going to require sending in the macbook again? I've already been without it for 2 months in total.

That's really hot if it's just idling. Have you checked Activity Monitor to make sure there's no processes running which are using up the CPU a bunch? Mine has hit that when on a flat surface and running at 100%, which is why I got the Elevator, so I'd be in the low-80's.

Adium had crashed again (It's been unbelievably buggy since the last update, proper nuisance, can't understand it)

wow, mine is on my lap and its 53 degrees celcius, im using adium firefox and itunes, mines never been more than 80 and that was editing a picture

That's extremely hot. Mine hovers right around 60-61C when I'm doing something really graphics-intensive, like playing games. 90C seems crazy; definitely check to make sure your hardware is working as it is supposed to and that something's not running the background chewing through your CPU cycles.

Awesome. Yeah, mine had a similar problem once when some background process crashed, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why the fans kept revving up.
