I have a firmware download for my Onkyo processor but the instructions are for Windows. Need to know how to unzip and put the file on usb drive using my iMac running latest version of High Sierra. Onkyo CS said to download Stuffit and then use Disc Utility but can't figure it out (tried once but got some app called ZipMac and it put some Mackeeper files on my computer that I threw out). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can open a plain zip file using finder - no extra apps needed. If its another format (7-zip, etc) - I'm a big fan of The Unarchiver (available on the mac app store).

Based on the instructions I can find online for the Onkyo - In disk utility you will need to format the USB drive to FAT32. Just select the disk in disk utility and hit erase, select the FAT32 format.

After that, you should be able to just drag the extracted files right onto the drive via Finder.

Thanks so much. Will give it a try. So not sure what I'm supposed to do in finder. Do I click on file and select something from the Menu? I did right click on zip file and hit open with and selected archive utility and it gave me a new folder on desk top but it appears to hold only documents. Pretty confused. I may start over an re-download the firmware. Bear with this neophyte.
[doublepost=1533076892][/doublepost]So this is the zip file when I download from Onkyo:Then the folder I get when I go to finder and click on new folder with the file in it. But when I open folder the contents appear to be just documents. Those can't be firmware, can they?

Yep, that is probably fine. If I had to take a guess the first one is probably a type of checksum (to ensure the files are all valid and unchanged), second one is some sort of header (being exactly 512 bytes), and the next 3 are likely the actual executable code that gets written. They probably split it up to make it easier to write into the appropriate chunks of memory. A little weird, but I have seen embedded firmware come that way before.

Finder identifies anything it doesn't recognize as a generic "Document"

Just drag the of0-0f4 files onto the root of the USB (once it is FAT32 formatted, of course) and you should be good to go, as long as the firmware correctly matches your model number
