So i was bought a Mac Pro on Black Friday with lion, and given it on Xmas day....I went to do the up to date program and get denied because its longer than 30days...what a load of baloney....it says nothing on the best buy website about claiming within 30 days..poop!,! Even still they should expect this most have extended returns for this very reason...emails to uptodate support just end up in the same old denied email.....looped..like loopy infinity loop it seems

Of course it isn't available forever, and why would you look at BestBuy's website for info about an Apple program? That is baloney, or loopy, or whatever.

The upgrade is only $20. That is less than eight tenths of one percent of the cost of the system. Just bite the bullet and quit laying the blame on Apple.

Unfortunately, that offer only applied back when Mountain Lion was released, back in... October I believe.

As the poster above said, it's only $20, it's not as bad as when we had to pay $120 for each computer we wanted to update.

The program is for systems bought AFTER July 28 2012 and is STILL available!

Best Buy are an authorized reseller of Apple products they should be obliged to provide any and all information pertaining to any Apple product they sell...!

The issue is not that it doesn't last forever it is that they should expect this type of scenario (bought November locked away until Christmas) ...

Yes why not throw $20 at apple for free when they should honor this situation as I'm sure many others are..use common sense for crying out loud..!

"Your completed order must be entered within 30 days of the date of your purchase of a qualifying computer (described in this offer)."

If you did that, you're good; if you didn't, that's your problem for not knowing the conditions...simple as that.

Did you contact Apple directly?

Did you talk to Apple support personally about this? If you take your time an be patient with a support person, they may help you on this.

Keep in mind the rules were thirty days, not thirty days plus 10 days if you bought it on black friday to give on Christmas, that said, people are people, and they may bend the rules for you if you are nice enough, or stubborn enough(I would try the nice approach). I doubt Best Buy could do anything without it costing them, your better bet is through apple support. You typically have 90 days of support. Give it a try.

Apple is usually pretty good at pleasing their customers if you talk to them about the issue.

Good luck.

Up to date claim issues by the massed

Its not just you, i also have the issue with up to date. in fact, if you google, hundred of people have their claim denied by nonsense reason. I purchased an Apple certified refurbished MacBook Air on Dec 6th from Apple online store & picked it up from my local Apple Store on the 14th. I was told on that my refurbish MacBook Air is eligible for the free mountain lion up to date program as it comes with lion.
In fact, all the refurbished Mac are eligible for the up to date program as states one the apple website

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_air

So I submitted my claim with my order receipt that shows the order number, order date, product description & product ID along with serial number, then I got a denial latter as followed:

Reference No: Xxxxxxxxxx

Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for your recent OS X Mountain Lion Up-To-Date order. We want to thank you for your interest in Apple products and services.

We are unable to process your request for OS X Mountain Lion because of the following:

Receipt does not show purchase of a qualifying product
If you need additional assistance, please send your inquiry, including the reference number located in the upper-left corner of this email, to uptodatesupport@apple.com.

The person clear was retarded enough and cant read the receipt with order number, product description & part number on the receipt or can not understand English. Even when the receipt clear shows it is a qualifying product. But once I google search, I realized many many more people have the same situation where they are WRONGFULLY denied the claim with nonsense reason.

There are hundred more cases like this where claim denied for reason such as not from authorized apple seller (for purchase from apple online stored directly), not qualifying purchase (they consider a MacBook are not a qualifying purchase) to out of the 30 days limited ( when submitted within a week of purchase). Does anyone know where third world country is the up-to-date support outsourced to? India? China? And if Apple wrongfully denying people OSX up to date as they promised on the website, should that be consider illegal false advertising? Since they are promising an OS that they wont deliver after the purchase. And it does seems like there are hundred of cases out there. I was wonder if anyone have such issues can you state it here? Thanks.

Wow how ironic, the same exact thing happened to me. I bought a refurb macbook air from the online store and they gave me that exact same excuse even though I emailed them a copy of my receipt. I ended up giving them a call and one of their employees said he'd move my case up to be reviewed by a supervisor and he said he didn't see why it was denied in the first place. Long story short I ended up getting a e-mail with the code the next morning. In your case I suggest giving them a call and seeing what they can do for you.

of course how stupid of me for thinking Apple would use common sense and realize that at christmas time, such things as presents are bought...how can you not see that? you have no common sense or what? What do you say about the majority of other stores who offer extended warranties around xmas knowing presents are bought early and not opened until christmas, this is similar if not the same situation.!! quit offering up the usual troll response of it's black or white..it's not....use your cop on...it's a matter of common sense which Apple must apply to these circumstances...This Mac Pro has being sitting in Best Buy for several months, it shouldn't make a damn difference when I opened the box!

i've mailed their uptodate support email suggested in their 'denial' email, but they just keep responding with the same generic 'denial' email so yeah the next approach will be to call them...don't see why they suggest using this email when they give back nothing further..

if you dont want to pay the $20 there are other ways of getting ML for free ;)

last thing i want is to bring my Mac Pro into be serviced or repaired and then slapped with a big bill because my OSX is illegal.

Call apple, they will more than likely help you out. I got a US itunes gift card for xmas which obviously doesn't work in canada. My parents didn't know this. I called apple and they loaded my account in free songs and movie rentals. Didn't even need proof that I had the american card. I sent it to my family down south.

Curious at response.

Can you post the resolution from the phone call, kinda curious how they handle it.
