You had 3 options to pick from.

Apple Online Store
Apple Retail Store
Reseller

Why did you pick reseller?

If you bought it on line pick apple online, if you bought it at an apple store say so. If you bought it a dept. store (ie best buy) state reseller. Not sure why you would pick reseller if you bought it at the apple online. It's not a reseller....it's apple itself.

It appears my thread topic was not as clear as I intended, sorry!

I purchased my computer from http://store.apple.com/tw/

It is a little odd that the email address in the email is apple-au@apple.com. Do they think I live in Australia or something. The whole thing is very disappointing, I have a brand new macbook, its a retina so there is no doubt it is brand new, why is it not eligible for up to date even if i did not buy it from apples own store? (which I did)

So what happened when you picked up the telephone and called Apple? What did they say when you explained the situation to them? It's pretty obvious this is the result of a goof, nobody in their right mind would think that Apple's online store wasn't authorized to sell Apple equipment.

The au part is likely related to the support center your question was handled by. It's logical that a question from Taiwan might be handled in Australia. You don't think they staff a support center in every single country do you?
