The desktop Kaby Lake processors will be released later this year but AMD hasn't given any information regarding Polaris GPUs. Apple could:
  • Keep the same GPU options.
  • Use the re-branded 300 series GPUs (however there are only 3).
  • Use Nvidia.
  • Announce it and release it later this year/next year.
  • Announce it at the March event next year.

I hope they use Nvidia as the iMac will truly have a desktop GPU, however I don't mind waiting until next year as long as the graphics are upgraded. Since we are due for a redesign, it seems likely that they'll upgrade to the 14nm GPUs in order to allow for the new design.

Whichever they choose (and I'd prefer Nvidia, but Polaris is fine too) I hope they explain their plans soon (like, today).

I'm going MS Studio unless the new iMac is unveiled with articulating arm and touch. I'm already running a 2012 iMac with a dell touch screen that folds down for WIN 10 - a bit of a kluge. Looking for something better.

Indications are clearly leaning towards Polaris.
E.g. (rumored) Polaris is more mainstream than the more expensive high-end/gaming (= atypical Apple) Vega.

I think you might want to consider placing your order now. To the best of my knowledge there is no touch functionality in the Sierra code nor would they make the iMac the first touch device (much less of a market then laptops).

MS Studio isn't competition for the iMac, that is an entirely different product altogether.

They will have the latest AMD Polaris GPU's that fit within its thermal limits it's that simple!!

Lets not completely rule out Vega.

Why not it's a massive high end gaming card unlikely to fit within the thermal limits of an iMac??

Vega is there GPU line. There'll be a time when Polaris and Vega don't co exist.

Prepare to be disappointed they aren't releasing anything vega suitable suitable for an iMac for the foreseeable future and as they have barely got their Polaris cards out and 2016 has nearly finished I think anything but vega flagship professional GPU's are unlikely before the end of 2017.

They won't. They're in bed with AMD now and so we won't be seeing any nvidia gpus in Macs any time soon
I know that, I said "hope". They probably won't go to Nvidia for a few years. AMD give them better prices and less heat, that's all Apple care about.

Do you guys think the graphics in the 2017 iMac will support two external 5K displays in addition to its built in one?

I suppose if the 450/455/460 that's in the new MacBook Pro could theoretically power three 5Ks then that's a yes. Anyone know if it could?

It's been my dream since the 5K iMac launched to have three 5K displays on my desk. It doesn't look like Apple will provide us that, so the LG displays will have to do.

However the 25% discount on them is only for the rest of this year, so if it looks probable that the 2016 iMac will run two 5K externals, I'll need to buy them while the discount is on and leave them in the closet for a few months!
