What are your thoughts about upcomming iPad updates?
Please list a purpose and reason for the update as well as a time periode where it would fit in.

I believe there's 2 possibilities for upcomming iPad updates:
#1, Small update at the iPod event in September:
128GB capacity - it would make sense to utilise newer nand chips for BTO high-end possibility
FaceTime - more FaceTime units on market, launched the same time as A FaceTime enabled iPod Touch
Maybe, more ram

#2
128GB capacity
FaceTime
Retina Display 2048-by-1536, awesome for movie, e-reading and app support, but would it be overkill? Too expensive? Is the Retina display overall possible to manifacture in that size?
Major hardware update, to support for instance fuld hd videos

Possible Q1/Q2 2011, due to limited technically possibilities for the hardware update.
Btw it's written on an iPhone so please no comments on set up of text.

There will be no update to the hardware in September. Sometime in 2011 there will be a speed bump and possibly a camera included. Nothing much else.

No iPad update will be done this year. Next year we will see gyroscope and camera on the iPad.
iPad is still coming out on other countries and it won't be done by this fall. It will be a while before it rolls out ipad2

Try at least 2013. You honestly think Apple will release a $499 product with a resolution higher than all the MacBook Pros?

Not to mention the fact that there isn't a mobile GPU than can drive that many pixels.

The updates will come in the 3rd quarter of next year and as we have seen before the landscape of technology could change drastically by then.

I am still wating for magnetic based hard drives to go away and SSD to be the standard offering.

No...and No

Camera? I have a digital that I love and it fits in my pocket.

Video Camera for face time- Have a nice web cam sitting on the monitor.

Multi-tasking- promised in fall, prob will hit around November right before Christmas. Even though Ipads are selling like crazy, there will be a rush for Christmas Everyone will have waited a while, read the boards, and then make the dive into the Ipad.

But...it will be interesting to see what happens due to the Iphone 4 debacle- lots of PR will be poured into that or heavy PR into the Ipad.

The only iPad update I'm anticipating is the iOS 4 upgrade that is due out in the fall. All other rumors about hardware upgrades, especially a Retina display at this point in time are absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah, dudes... there's nothing to indicate that Apple will use a 1 year release cycle for the iPad. There isn't even enough competition in the tablet market to justify an aggressive release cycle. Hell…if it weren't for HP and Microsoft's bluff with the Courier and Slate, Apple may not have released the damn thing until Fall. Who can take on the iPad? JooJoo? The Archos 5? Eee PC? Please.

Cell phones, on the other hand, are released often enough to justify Apple's more aggressive strategies. The Motorolla Droid X is almost capable enough to take on the iPhone 4, and only god knows what the Droid 2 will be like. RIM will release their new Blackberry OS alongside a flagship phone. Samsung (and others) is planning to release a new breed of WinMo 7 phones.

Apple will likely release a 4g version of the iPhone next year to coincide with ATT's planned 4g rollout. A new iPad? Probably coming in 2012.

Me to. I find 3.2 to be incredibly buggy and the wifi support is horrible and I'm using an apple router. My iphone will constantly have full wifi bars yet my ipad struggles to connect and always has 1 bar

Super AMOLED screen FTW.

It would make sense, because of how awesome it is in sunlight. But would have to wait around a year or so due to AMOLED shortages.

I agree, but what about the whole news with the 5.6-Inch and 7-Inch OLED iPad models that may be announced at the iPod event in early September?

The 9.7-inch model will see some minor changes, while Apple will add Chimei Innolux (CMI) as one of its panel suppliers.

I wonder what this will be. Surely enough, it's definitely a rumor, but they tend to come about for some reason.

Consider the source: Digitimes, which often gets things not only wrong, but ludicrously wrong. And in this case, one of Digitimes' own analysts quickly pointed out a couple reasons why these rumors are unlikely.

Good point.

This just goes back to expecting iOS 4 as the only update.
