Update 1.1.1 messed up my phone

I had an iphone with tmobile software unlocked then restored it to normal and went at&t

No problems at all after doing the firmware update 1.1.1 I got a error message my sim is invalid after calling apple all they kept asking was if I ever put any third party apps on my phone

of course I said no and they finally said go to an at&t to get a new sim

I taught when you do a restore it brings your phone back 100 percent to out of box state I guess not

NO, didn't you read the tons of forums.. if your phone is unlocked it will mess up with the Update. If you were going to update u have to wait for the relock software...

You can always bring it back to an apple store.
I heard they do a complete restore in 10 minutes while you're there to hacked iphones.

Restore doesn't relock the phone if it has been unlocked to use with another carrier. In order to relock the phone you would have had to wait for a relock program to be developed before updating

oh great now if I go to the apple store to return it for a new one under the 14 day return policy will I have a problem ?

the instant you unlocked it you voided your warranty. while apple may decided to assist you if you bring it in they are under no obligation to do so. in the process of updating to 1.1.1 iTunes tells you, very clearly and very plainly that doing the update on an unlocked phone may make it inoperable.

i suggest you learn how to read.

Sorry, but there's nothing 'safe' about unlocking. Once you start the process, you all alone.

Solution:

For those who unlocked iPhones, want to upgrade or have upgraded to 1.1.1 and don't know how to approach Apple or AT&T to fix it.

Lose your SIM. dog ate. baby nephew crushed it, confusing it for one of his Lego's. You get the idea.


EDIT: well at least this would solve the SIM evidence part of it....if your phone is bricked already you might have to do more to it i guess...

Why would you think it would return it to a locked state or even put things back the way they were otherwise?

The restore process likely assumes (assumption is never good is it?) that everything in the system is untouched and that's definitely not the case with an unlocked phone.

Why would Apple work their development process around phones that no longer met their specifications?

They gave the warning and it was apparent that they weren't going to tolerate unlocked phones because it messed with anticipated revenue.

I have some sympathy (but not much) for everyone who decided to mess with their phones without knowing what Apple would do but it was inevitable that Apple would respond to a loss of revenue.

It's part of the iPhone's SLA that you're not permitted to mess with the OS coding.

Before the iPhone was released it was bloody obvious to anyone that this would happen.

Unlocking/Hacking a phone that can have it's OS updated is just asking for trouble.

It's not illegal, just against the user agreement. So Apple have no obligation to assist in sorting out problems causes by ****ing around with the iPhone's OS.

Those who are having trouble despite not altering the iPhone in any way are in a different position.

You guys make it sound like if a IPhone is bought new, then update the firmware to the 1.1.1 and then do the unlocking, it will work; But my understanding is that it wont. I think the best advice would be to hold off until the crack has taken' place. I also agree there is no need to be rude, but if you are going to unlocked your Iphone or modify any product for that matter, know what you are doing, and be ok with paying for something and know it may not work as a result of modifications; otherwise, don't modify it!

Btw, with the original SIM card that came with the phone (non-activated SIM): Has anyone attempted to place that SIM card in the phone before the update, then switch it out with another and have any success?

Just like any other unlock or hack, they will come out with some other way of unlocking/hacking the IPhone so it will work with 1.1.1. So, no need to feel sorry for anyone who has done the unlocking them selves, but I do feel kind of bad for those idots who bought an unlocked IPhone from eBay for $850.00 and then attempt to update it to it's new firmware on iTunes. LOL Must SUCK TO BE THEM!

It's not illegal to modify your phone, it's against warranty agreement, but no one can come and take you to jail. LOL

Well took it back to the apple store under the 14 day return policy took out the sim and told them it white screens alot.

They had one of there genius tech's look at it and said they would give me a new one without a sim cause mine didn't have one whole process took ten minutes

I am back online with the iphone now
