So I blew the speaker out on my iPhone.
I took it to my local Apple store (busy busy busy!!), walked right up to the genius bar and handed them my phone. I explained that I tried restore, turning sound check off, turning the EQ off, and it still sounded like crap. He went to the back and emerged with a new iphone, switched sims and in 15 minutes I was out the door with a new phone.

APPLE RULES. I have only had apple computers, and it is because of service like that that I will only have apple products.

I guess it depends on whether or not you spend the $$$ to buy it new. Some people have nothing but great experiences and some (second hand mac owners) have found it easier to do surgical operation on their own body than get apple to help them with an issue.

Definitely preferential treatment going on at apple, but I suppose if you spend the $$ you get to be first in line :) I bought my first mac laptop off ebay and they wouldn't even speak to me. Learned the hard way how to get support at apple.....lol.
