Hi everyone,
I had a 2007 24" 2.4 2600 etc. So I had the 3rd return for a bad screen. They told me that they could either fix it again or they'd replace it. They replaced it with a 2.66 machine, which I though had the gt120 card in it, but indeed it has the 9400m I feel as though I was downgraded from a discreet card. Should I be happy I got it replaced or should I make a fuss? I generally use the computer for FCP and maya.
3 year lurker and happy to make a post.

Well I called 800 my apple, I was put up 3 levels, and I ended up with a "product specialist named DANH, very pleasant . He put my claim into engineering, 3 days later he called and told me the 2.93 has shipped, and to put the 2.66 in the box and ship it back. Very smooth. I have had nothing but luck with apple customer support, My powerbook died with 2 weeks left of warranty and they gave me a new MBP with high def screen.
Also, apple westfarms geniuses, are actually good at what they do, very courteous, patient and helpful. Very unlike albany ny crossgates geniuses who were sarcastic and downright condescending.
Thanks!
Dave

The new ones have a faster FSB (1066 vs. 800) and faster RAM (DDR3 1066 vs. DDR2 667). It's expected that the 9400m will be at least what the 2400XT was, which I think was better than the 9600?

You said you use Maya so you want the best graphics you can get. While I agree that the actual performance of the card you've been given and your original is likely on a par, you may as well argue it with them and see if you can get a better deal.

I put in a call to apple today and it was escalated to their engineering dept. I am going to hope for the best.

Even Better

EVEN BETTER NEWS! A 3.06 showed up today, gt130 and all, screen has no BL bleed. Super satisfied customer. 2.4 to a 3.06.

Although I never had the luck you did, I have always received excellent service when dealing with Apple. I have nothing but good things to say about them and have always been treated quite well. That is why, in my opinion, the extra cost of purchasing an Apple vs other brands is justified - for situations just like yours.

Very impressed (and jealous!).

I did have the applecare. I am setting up a refund for the old one and plan on rying to ebay a new one for he new computer. Great warranty. However the refund policy sort of sucks.

I don't understand you said you received 3.06 but you want to buy another one and you are sating refund policy sucks I don't get it.

This guy is an asshat. Apple went above and beyond by updating you to the latest and then you even got them to give you a 3.06 because you 'needed' the gpu of that model.

How can you say you hate their policy?

wow, you're a classic *******.

apple originally sent you a replacement of a BETTER graphics card than the one you PAID for two years ago.

and yet you got an even better one.

I hope you feel guilt. Otherwise, I hope your imac dies after warranty and apple creates a 2007 model just for you.

I don't see the problem here. He got the best model he could get as a replacement. Like for like insurance is just the same, if you paid for a dedicated graphics card then that's what you get. He uses Maya - a 3D design app. He needs the dedicated fast video memory and so needs a dedicated card. A few years ago my laptop broke but it was covered under insurance. It was like for like and they had to get me a replacement laptop that was equal or better to it - because I'd got one with dedicated graphics and a 1080p screen before, they had to give me a replacement with dedicated graphics and 1080p display. That basically meant a top model laptop since they were the only ones that could match those specifications. Had they not had to stick to those then I would have ended up with a cheapo laptop that couldn't do HD video editing on.

I think their policy about comping for applecare sucks, even though you buy a 2 year extension, they treat it as a 3 year warranty, so I am getting 50% creditted instead of 66% I wont make a strink about it though.
Asshat? I think I got a fair deal, and I hope it doesnt break.

PS what did the deleted comment say?

I think some of the posters here got a bit confused. I think they thought that you are complaining about the way Apple handled the iMac problem and that you were selling the iMac.

I had to read your post a couple of times to understand it, the spelling mistakes didn't help either. But I get that it's the Applecare refund policy you are unhappy about and that you are going to go to eBay to find cheap Applecare for your new iMac.

spcdust obviously realised his mistake and deleted his negative comment, the others should really apologise.

Nice iMac by the way, I have the previous 3.06 model and it's an absolute bomb. This thing will last me for years to come :)

Thanks Realat, I am sorry about the spelling as english is not my primary language. I do feel very happy about the imac, and very fortunate. I am sorry others are mad, but people seem to complain about the poor service, and Id like to show them there is also good service

I had a hell of a time getting them to replace my iMac after I had the same fan issue twice within 2 weeks of the original purchase. All I wanted was a replacement of the same model and they gave me a bunch of sh#t about it.

Lucky you.

I seriously can't believe you would complain about the Applecare refund.

They have, under the terms of any other manufacturer, completed their obligation to you by giving you a brand new machine, with new warranty. On top of that, they are giving you a refund on the prorated portion of your warranty, and will allow you to buy a new extended warranty to protect the FREE machine you received.

I jut recently went through this with my Macbook Pro and almost felt guilty taking the refund on the Applecare.

Congratulations on your replacement.

I was surprised to see you didn't like the Crossgates Apple Store. I was at the Genius Bar yesterday and was quite satisfied. Although they don't have my part in stock, it's been ordered. I took the computer home until it arrives. When it comes in, I have been promised to be 'next on the bench' when I bring it back. I can't ask for more than that.

They promoted some people to manager status late last year and this store is better than ever! The staff seems more relaxed and truly focused on Customer Service. Sorry you had a bad experience. I like the Apple Store at Crossgates.

No negative comment from me, actually my sentiments were the exact same as yours but just had a moment of "why bother" as OP had got the resolution they deserved and thought I might just provoke another barrage of naysyers:D
