Why does it matter?
Have you noticed that the NOAD 2.0 app from Handmark, with the 3rd edition of the NOAD does not have the "The right word" section?
For instance, look up "burn." Dictionary.app and the previous version of Handmark's NOAD for iPhone (both use the 2nd Edition) have that section right below ORIGIN, and it explains the differences between burn, char, singe, scorch, sear and scald. The current version does not.

Is it the same for you too? Does anybody have the paper version to verify if it's been omitted from the 3rd Edition altogether or if it's Handmark's fault?

UPDATE: They removed the section entirely from the third edition. If you still want that feature you'll have to buy Oxford's American Writer Thesaurus.

Another option would be to install the Kindle app. It comes with the NOAD and it appears to be the 2nd edition. You can see the example when you look up the word burn.

That wouldn't be very practical if you want a standalone dictionary.

There's another NOAD 2nd edition offered by WordWeb for that matter, too. The problem is it isn't the latest edition.

Could've done without words such as "BFF" or "hockey mom" for that section though.
