hi all. my mac pro hit its 10th bday this past summer. while it’s perfectly fine for everything i use it for (web, playing videos, seti@home), i am slightly annoyed that both chrome and firefox are no longer supported. everything still works for now, the roccat browser still updates.

is there a way to update the browsers without overhauling the entire os? really would like to avoid possibly bricking the entire system. i have the 2007 mac pro with quad core woodcrest cpus, 10 gb ram, the original ati radeon video card, and snow leopard.

Nope.

Gotta update the OS.

Your computer is a slowly sinking ship. When to abandon it is up to you.

i figure there are a handful of sites that won’t ever change (e.g. wikipedia, youtube), so those should always be good. wikipedia alone is at least a lifetime’s worth of reading. also unlikely that video formats will change much, even if they do i still have my current library. and i can feed it video files from my windows 10 ultrabook.

so worst case, it’ll be an encyclopedia and a glorified dvr while searching for aliens... until it breaks.

one more thing, it's also a retro arcade (coolrom.com). you want me to throw all of this out... are you crazy?

bite the bullet upgrade that video card to at least HD4870 or better install a hacked version of Mavericks or later OS it isn't rocket science !

haha, maybe... got a new ipad 12.9 in the mail, gonna work on that first. i love this old dinosaur, but given its current value, that’s quite a project. or perhaps i can fanagle an old version of parallels
