So things are slowly getting really critical at Apple.

We already have dark patterns, we have constant notifications to finally upgrade to iOS 26, and now we also have denied security updates?

According to Apple, the security update that is necessary because of already exploited vulnerabilities is not displayed on my iPhone. Nor is it displayed on my girlfriend's iPad. And I checked, we are not the only ones.

I have to ask: What's going on with Apple?
It's bad enough that they practically ignore their older systems, forcing users to upgrade. It's bad enough that they don't give us the option to customize the user interface (what happened to freedom of choice?)

But now Apple deliberately exposing users to security vulnerabilities because they don't want to switch to a buggy system?

I'm just asking what the reason for this is.

I was able to update my iPadPro(4th gen) to iPadOSv18.7.3 without issue. Similarly Mrs. SS’s iPadAir(4th gen). However, neither of our iPhone13minis allow this. Both are on iOSv18.7.2 but the only update in Software Update is to v26.2. No scrolling down to find v18.7.3…just doesn’t exist for us for whatever reason.

Apple has released iOS 18.7.3 only for iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPadOS 18.7.3 only for the 10.2-in. iPad (7th generation).
You can still enroll into the iOS 18 beta program and install 18.7.3.

Doing it right now, Thanks 💫🌟 ✨

Update
Done 18.7.3 . Not to have the pushing 26.2 update and the red alert
I need to stay on Beta Updates, 🙂 and Automatic off

What if in a week or so a new beta is out, ie 18.7.4 beta1, are we forced to update?!

Apple needs to fix this asap... no sense in holding back security updates !

It's the official policy since 2022.

You can exit the beta program.
I've been wondering if I downloaded the 18.7.3 beta how, if Apple relented and made it the official version, how I would switch back to it. I've never downloaded a beta release of anything before and have a recollection that someone had problems. How does one "exit the beta program?"

Thanks.

I don't understand, and I would appreciate your help. Why would someone knowingly invite problems by joining a beta program when issues are foreseeable, and you then have to do a clean reinstall afterward to get out of a mess of updates and beta fragments?

Because Apple has not released iOS 18.7.3 for all devices, like my iPhone SE 2.
Because the iOS 18.7.3 beta available to install now is the same build (22H217) as the released iOS 18.7.3.
Because you don't have to install any other betas, you can turn beta off immediately after installing iOS 18.7.3.

"At any time, you may unenroll your device so that it no longer receives these updates. Then, when the next version of commercial software is released, you can install it from Software Update."

Why would they even build an 18.7.3 beta for newer phones if they didn't intend to release it for all?

This is telling me it's one of two possibilities:

1) Apple changed their mind at the last minute and decided not to push 18.7.3 for newer devices.

Or

2) Apple is throwing us a bone by letting us stay on the 18.7.3 beta if we don't want 26 yet.

It's probably #1 to be honest. And it's pretty crappy of them to do this, given how many people hate the redesign and how glitchy 26 has been.

I'm likely staying on 18 for this cycle and hoping 27 is better.

I think iOS 18.7.3 still being available on the beta channel is simply an "oversight" from Apple.
Probably an unwanted "loophole" - use it while still available if you're on 18. Myself keep rocking 17.7.2.

I’m always puzzled by the new updates/upgrades, if they are really for security reasons or if Apple needs the statistics of users upgrading or updating to go up.

I don't know if you're right, but after resisting the 18.7.3 beta route, I did exactly as you suggest and installed the beta on three candidate devices.
No glitches experienced.

I am happy to report that I successfully updated my 16e to 18.7.3 through developer section of the software update stack of the settings. It was my first time doing such a thing so I wonder what happens if I leave the update settings as they are now? Will I just be informed of the new developer / public betas or they would be automatically downloaded and pushed onto my device out of my control? I have auto update setting off.

The reason I'm asking is because I dislike the 26.2 annoying update notification and feel kind of on the safe side to rather stay on the beta channel than to get 26 accidentally and permanently installed.

If you have "Automatically Download" and "Automatically Install" turned off, you should just receive a notification if a new beta is available.
