LoopRumors claims they'd learned about "some very interesting tidbits about a future version of the Apple TV software." They go on to suggest that the updated software might be delivered to your :apple: tv by Apple via the device's Internet connection.

Details such as temperature, and weather forecasts will be available in a future version of the OS. Utilizing the internet, Apple will allow users to retrieve information on their favorite teams and subscribe to news and game day scores. Headlines from RSS news feeds will also be available, and constantly updated into Apple TV.
