No, that includes GPRS and EDGE.

The 3G coverage is far, far smaller.

While looking at Voice coverage, you have to click the "View 3G/Mobile Broadband coverage (in select areas)" link below the map.

Then pick a city. When the blue map shows up, zoom out to one tick just below full out-zoom to see the whole USA. (If you go full out, you lose the 3G view and go back to GPRS/EDGE again. Very cute.)
 
Nice. At least it can finally find my address. The coverage is still the same though :)

Says there is no coverage whatso ever, no roaming either. (of course verizon has perfect coverage here) but it's my lake property where i used to go camping a lot, not as much so now but we do need to keep the lot mowed.

I get one bar on my iphone, and it shows as edge network. And it actually does get a call through after the third attempt lol
 
You know, it's really a shame that people think that at&t sucks everywhere. I'm sitting in my house where I get 5 bars of 3G with my iPhone and I've also got a CDMA Blackberry that gets two bars if I'm lucky and keeps dropping EVDO.

I have the same exact situation with AT&T and vzw, my old chocolate would get 1-2 bars if lucky, and my iPhone sits here with 5 bars 3G

I Don't. I think their network sucks in any highly-populated metro area and they don't care enough to fix it. Take the Ohio State University where if I even think about trying to use my 3g connection it drops down to edge. Or at every OSU football game this year where they are the "Official sponsor of Ohio State athletics" and guess what...NO F'NG DATA AT ALL during the entire game. It's pathetic and I'm about to leave. I *really* wish the iPhone would go to Verizon...*so* bad.

You really think it would be "accurate" to call what you get there "coverage"?

Besides, all of these maps are based on mathematical calculations based on tower distance, intervening elevations, etc. Do you really think they travel all through the woods and climb the sides of mountains to check whether people actually get a signal?
 
Yeah the map is sketchy at best. I loved living in Houston and getting 3g everywhere but since I moved back to NC I never see more then 2 bars. And even though the map shows me getting "GOOD" signal I have to travel 2 miles away from my house (in any direction pretty much) to even get 1 bar. I really want the Microcells to come out quick so I can grab one for my house. Sadly my friends can use their Verizon phones in my house with full bars :-(

Ditto, except my BB almost always showed 4-5 bars but dropped calls like a champ. The only time I've ever had a dropped call on my 3GS was on a day when AT&T had network issues in my area (I called to verify, thinking there was something up with my phone 'cause I'd gone from no dropped calls ever to 4 dropped in 15 minutes.) It's been flawless ever since.
 
They don't want you to be able to see the whole country at once (I guess it's too embarrassing?), but I put two maps together. The blue is 3G coverage. Pretty lame if you ask me...

Wat did AT&T say they have spent about $35 billion the last two years upgrading their network?
Is that all the coverge they got for $35 billion? Verizon must have spent trillions

Yes. Cows living in North Dakota won't be able to get 3G on their iPhones. What a shame.

They have pretty much all the populated cities covered. I can't blame them for not wanting to upgrade an area to 3G in small towns where demand simply isn't there. Verizon has 3G in the middle of nowhere because the upgrade for them was much easier, it's basically a software upgrade to the towers, whereas with AT&T technicians have to go out to every tower and install new equipment for 3G. And remember, just because some guy at the Verizon HQ upgraded a cell tower halfway across the country in Bumf*** Montana to EvDO doesn't mean that the backhaul was upgraded and that you can actually hit 3G speeds on that tower.

You don't know what you're talking about. I'm in New York City at 15th street and 5th avenue and do you know how many bars of service I'm getting? Zero. That is everyday when I'm in my office. They hardly have the cities covered.

...that is embarrassing for AT&T!

XCrunner, I left them even though I loved the iPhone when I had it. There was something in me that said, what is more important?... a phone with reliable coverage, or an iPhone that can do so many great things for me with a so so coverage.

I decided I needed a phone with great coverage more than anything, and that calls were priority #1. I opted to go back to Verizon along with my company. Verizon is great, and when we all had iPhones with AT&T - we had way too many dropped calls, important calls to say the least. AT&T was whom to blame, so we dropped them...

I am still hoping for a LTE iPhone coming from Verizon in a year or so!!!

Just because you live in flyover country doesn't mean you don't think it's not a backwater.

In all seriousness, I see no difference between Missouri and Montana or North Dakota and New York state. AT&T has iPhone owners from every part of the country, and most of them are at least a little unhappy with the level of service provided.

Highly populated metro areas huh? That's a pretty broad statement.
Works great here in Phoenix. But of course we are only the 5th largest city in the US. Guess we don't qualify as highly populated right?


As for your complaint about coverage during football games, even Verizon can't support 50,000 users on two or three towers at the same time.
It's physically impossible for ANY carrier to support that many users at once with full service.
Which I highly doubt there are more than two in range of the stadium.
They will always give voice calls priority bandwidth over data.

They would have to bring in mobile cell sites to augment the data traffic, plus they would also need the back-haul support to go with it.
I doubt the stadium has a spare OC connection just lying around and no carrier is going to pay to have one installed just to handle traffic for a handful of football games.

Welcome to reality.
