I updated my apple tv and now all I get is a screen showing a cable to connect to iTunes. Flashing light on the unit. Not sure what to do. Help?

I updated tonight and mine did the same thing. First update that has done this to me. Luckily, my bluetooth headset charges with a micro usb cable, so I used that to reinstall the update with iTunes and it is back to normal.

yah, this happened to me too today. I updated on 10/12 and now I had an update today, now it says "connect to itunes" and i had to order a micro USB cable....

It's a pretty simple process once you find a micro USB cable.

Just plug the usb cable into the ATV and open iTunes.

I didn't bother to connect the power cable at the same time and it worked just fine.

That's actually quite important, for me the USB updates never work if the power cable is attached. You HAVE to remove the power cable to update.

As I said in another thread, my ATV2 is stuck on 4.3 and claims that it's up to date there. Even with a restore, it won't go to 4.4.

I am awaiting delivery of microUSB cable from monoprice to see if iTunes can fix the problem for me.

This happened to me yesterday. I did the update, then it shut down and the white light on the front started blinking, then the iTunes icon and a USB cable came on the screen. I later find out I have to buy the micro USB cable separate to restore my ATV in iTunes, which I bought last night and did the restore. Now it appears to be working, although the white light on it will randomly come on for a few seconds then shut down.

Why the hell would Apple not include the micro USB cable with the AppleTV if you need it to restore the unit through iTunes?! Nice planning Apple!

I synced my ATV2 last night, I had a spare micro USB laying around and although I had to restore it twice it seems ok now.

Update:

It still seems funky to me, mirroring to my ipad is very sluggish now and pixelated, still takes forever to stream a movie trailer.

IMO there is still something wrong with the ATV's

hopefully Apple is working a fix
