Hello,

I updated Fiveicondock through Cydia, and when I resprung, the phone went black. Now when I plug it, I just get a an empty battery indicator with a lighting bolt, but it won't go up; if I unplug it, it turns off. The weird part is I did have battery left.

I tried restoring it in DFU mode, because iTunes doesn't recognize it normally, and I get error 1601. I tried reinstalling iTunes, doing it as another user and switching USB ports, but no luck.

Any ideas would be very appreciated

I already tried DFU (holding power + home, then just home), and the one you linked doesn't work at all... In DFU iTunes does see an iPhone in recovery mode, but I get error 1601 when I try to restore it

No. The phone is off already, and I think it powers down completely when I unplug it, but it shouldn't, since I had it charging for a while before this problem happened.

ummmm.....

Well it might not be the update, i just installed the update as well and everything is running fine?...

yeah

lucky the word bricked in the Iphone world is over used 99.9999999 chance a bricked Iphone isn't bricked. :D just keep working on it!

Thanks.

Some sites I've seen suggest trying to restore to an already pwned firmware, but I can't find a way to do that. It's a 3GS, and redsn0w doesn't see my iPhone in DFU mode, so I can't advance past the third screen

Thanks.

Which version of RedSn0w are you using? It needs to be 0.8.

Does iTunes see the phone in DFU? If so, leave it in DFU, close iTunes, open Redsn0w and just go straight through the first few screens till you reach the DFU mode one. It should then see it straight away.

It is Redsn0w 0.8, and it is in DFU mode, but Redsn0w still doesn't recognize it (iTunes does)

Yeah, you can't do it that way with the 3G S. Only the 1st gen iPod touch, 1st gen iPhone and iPhone 3G. Gotta use redsn0w.

It's not supposed to be in DFU mode, it's supposed to be in recovery mode. Do you see the iTunes logo and USB cable on the screen, or is it black? Black = DFU, iTunes logo = recovery.

It's black. The phone seemingly won't hold a charge anymore. When it's plugged, all I see is the empty battery and a lightning bolt, when I unplug it, a plug icon blinks a few times and then the phone shuts off. It's unresponsive while unplugged.

When it's plugged, I can only put it in DFU mode, because the computer doesn't recognize it any other way. I'm afraid to send it to Apple because they might find out it's jailbroken...

Yea, that's not recovery mode.

With the phone OFF and UNPLUGGED, hold down the home button and plug it in while STILL holding down the home button.

That should get you to recovery mode.

No luck with the recovery mode

That's all I get when I plug the iPhone on, and it never goes up, and pressing the Home button before plugging it in does nothing. The only thing I can do is put it into DFU mode while plugged in. When it's unplugged, it just powers down completely

You need to let it charge for a bit before putting it into recovery mode. The battery is dead. That's why it's showing that.

It was plugged in the whole night, and it had a charge right before the problems started.

Take it to Apple. If they can't power it up then they can't tell it's jailbroken. And even if they do somehow know, you're no worse off than you are now.

you may have to hold the home button for 20 to 30 seconds.

I had absolutely no luck restoringto a pwned firmware.
After restoring to itunes then redsn0w worked.
