I bought iMac 27" from local apple store two days ago. Everything is fine execpt that there is some weird sound coming from the computer when the screen turns darker to save energy. Once I move my mouse to activate the screen, the sound goes away. I am saying the sound is so load, but it is still noticable and a little annoying in a quite room.

Does anybody have the same problem? Please let me know if you know how to fix this problem. I greatly appreciate it.

Update: I search "screem+humming+dim" and turn out actually a lot of iMac owners have this problem. Is it a technical issue Apple fails to resolve in general?

The thing is the sound is really not loud. I just hate to take a 30 lb machine to the apple store and then they tell me they could not hear anything because the apple store itself is louder than the noise from the iMac.

I hope somebody has the same issue as I have. But it seems it makes me disppointed.:(

So... you're saying that it isn't a BIG PROBLEM then? Dude, the machine isn't working right, take it back and have them fix the thing in a quiet room.

I even couldn't search this 14 days policy in Apple's website. Do they charge restocking fee for exchange like this?

If it's broken. No chance. Return it for new product or refund. Bad humming screens is not uncommon.

Ok, I'll bring the iMac to the apple store. Unfortunately I just transfer all my data from a PC. It took me several hours. It's sad I have to do all of this again.

BTW, how can I make sure Apple will help me wash all my data in the hard drive before I make the exchange?

Can you do a backup with time machine before you go there? That should solve this problem.

Thanks a lot! It's a very good idea.

I'm also wondering how I make sure my data in this machine could be deleted before I turn it in.
