Do you think that MBPs will be updated and come with the merom chip from Sep. 12?

I've heard rumors about mid september, and there is an expo at Sep 12, right? But are there any rumors/leaks suggesting that there will be an update at the time of the expo?

Well I found out today that my MacBook shipment (which is on priority one as it's a replacement) is being shipped on the 12th.

I've not heard of ANYONE getting theirs shipped before this, and as I put my request for a replacement in 2 weeks ago, I'd have thought if they were sending any at all, mine would be before the 12th... so that's what makes me think maybe, just maybe, they are going to be releasing Merom on or before the 12th. It's wishful thinking though.

GOD PEOPLE... forgive me for screaming
IF YOU JUST LOOK AROUND, YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND MORE THAN 100 THREADS (AND I MEANT LITERALLY) ON THIS VERY TOPIC, DO YOU HAVE TO CREATE ANOTHER TOPIC JUST FOR THIS?

and to answer your question, no one knows for sure(well, i wouldn't say no one, but certainly no one will tell you). so just wait and see... now if you need one now, just get one, the ones out there are best of today, and they are gonna be very good after 2 yrs, and even after 4 ~ 6 yrs, they are still sustainable...

very, very, very limited of people can actually really feel the differences (no, 5 second shorter start up time does not count)

even if there's update, unless there is no more yonah in stock, and i mean 0, they wouldn't replace your yonah with merom...
just put yourself in the shoes of the inventory manager, would you do that?
at that point yonah will not be sold for more expensive than merom... there is no logic in this

My 2 GHz MBP starts up in 35 seconds +/- 2 seconds (not counting the time it takes to type my password) . I'd say at least 7 seconds of that is the hard drive spinning up to speed, which really can't be sped up....

I think many people, like myself, want Merom primarily for it's 64-bit support. I couldn't care less if Merom is any faster. I'd even go as far as to say I'd rather have a 1.83GHz Merom in place of a 2.33GHz Yonah.

I didn't see any thread on this specific topic, but you could point me to it instead of yelling.

I already have a powerbook less than a year old that works fine. I want to upgrade to get something faster. For what I use my computer for, speed does make a difference. If merom is 20% faster and I only have to wait 8 seconds for something, not 10, that makes a difference.

I forgive you for yelling.

i agree. i dont see the point in buying old tech when the next thing is inches away. 32 bit processors have been in use for how long? people talk about this minimal speed increase, but that is considering its usability today. as time goes on having a 64 bit processor will become more important.

The easiest way would be to do a forum search before posting. Upper right hand of your page.

Searching Macbook Pro has 3 results on the first page about Merom updates in MBP. And searching MBP also has 3 results on the first page with a title containing information about new merom MBPs, and half a dozen more pages that don't say it in the title but have information about merom MBPs in the threat.
