Hi guys,

I am currently ruining 5.0.1 on my 4S. I had about 30 apps that needed updates ½ of them installed whereas the others will not due to a software 5.1.1requirement. These 15-ish apps are now disabled on my phone until I update my phone. For this reason I would like to update my phone but I am unsure if it is a smart decision to do it now. There is “supposed” to be a new phone coming out sometime in September and I am 100% positive that it will have a new software too. It is best to update to 5.1.1 now or just wait however many months it may be for the new software to be jailbroken? What do you guys recommend? if it is to update what would be the best way to jailbreak my phone untethered that would allow me to restore my settings and tweaks easily?

Wait for iPhone OS 6 to be released along with the subsequent jailbreak of it. I stopped doing updates for every since update long ago. Stay on major releases and skip patch jobs (unless critical security flaws).

Me personally, I'm still on 5.0.1 iPhone OS.

If I understand your post correctly you are on 5.0.1 jailbroken. You want to know if you can update.

You can update to 5.1.1 right now and jailbreak your phone if you choose. 5.1.1 has a jailbreak for it do there is no need to wait.

If you are Planning on getting the new phone there is no telling when a jailbreak will be available for it. iOS 6 will be out the same time as the new phone, I would guess that a tethered jailbreak will be out for the A4 devices pretty quick, there is no telling when it will be out for the new phone and the 4s as they don't have the A4 chip.

The iPhone Dev Team already stated they have security holes in place for iPhone OS 6 release for A5 devices. It is just the new devices that will suffer temporarily the unavailability of the jailbreak.
