My late 2013 iMac was fine until I loaded 10.11.3. Safari, Chrome and Firefox all take minutes to load pages. I checked my DNS entries and they seem good. Running in safe mode does not have the problem. I checked my login items and only Dropbox is being loaded.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

That is a big clue right there. It sounds like you have a third party startup or launch item of some sort that is causing a conflict. When you boot to safe mode it skips all login and startup items.

There are more ways to launch a login or strip item that that login items section.

Check these folders for launch items. (~ is you users folder)

~/Library/LaunchAgents
/Library/LaunchAgents
/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/StartupItems

Google Updater went nuts after the prior OS update and slowed down my Mac big time. According to Activity Monitor it was "calling home" thousands of times per minute and brought my Mac to a crawl.

[doublepost=1453349520][/doublepost]I uninstalled ESET and everything started working again with great performance. If you have any anti-virus (anti-malware) software installed, try uninstalling and see if that works for you as well. Turning it off did not fix the browser performance issues. I had to completely uninstall.

I then reinstalled ESET and everything continued to work very well.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I tried them all and ESET was the culprit. Everything appears good to go now. I am debating whether or not to reinstall ESET.

ESET did the same for me. Uninstalled using their uninstaller, then reinstalled. Works fine now.

You can always give the reinstall a try, and then uninstall again if the problem returns. For me, the problem returned after a clean reinstall of ESET, so I did a second uninstall and all is well once again. I sent a support ticket to ESET about the problem. You may want to do that as well.

[doublepost=1453398690][/doublepost]I had the exact thing happening with all browsers. So like the others I uninstalled Eset cyber security and everything was working properly again testing the browsers. I reinstalled Eset and everything was still working properly. Thanks to all for the Eset suggestion.

[doublepost=1453473508][/doublepost]On my previous post I uninstalled Eset and was the browsers were working fine. So I reinstalled Eset once more and no problems after that. However this morning when I turned the computer back on I had the same problem so I uninstalled Eset again and everything worked. So Eset was the problem. I am leaving it uninstalled until I contact Eset support to find out what's going on.

Should have uninstalled Eset! Oh well.. I'm doing a fresh install of El Cap. It was always pretty slow since the upgrade from Yosemite. Using this excuse to give it a clean start.

We sincerely apologize for the frustration this issue has caused for our users.

Our developers were able to narrow down the source of the issue and release a fix within 48 hours. The cause of the issue was a conflict between the latest update for OS X 10.11.3 and our Internet Protection Module (ver 1226.6). We released an update for our module (1226.7) earlier this morning (January 22, 2016), which fixes the issue.

For those still experiencing this issue, no action is required on your part. The update will be pushed through automatically, when ESET checks for updates within an hour. If you don't want to wait you can manually push the update by clearing the update cache and updating the virus signature database. Instructions for that are here: http://support.eset.com/kb3173/.

For those who have uninstalled ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro, reinstalling will push that fixed update through during the activation process.

Again, we are sorry for the disruption this caused and we are working diligently to put processes in place to prevent a future occurrence like this. Thank you for your patience and for choosing ESET as your security software provider.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact ESET Customer Care.
