After updating to 2.3.1 yesterday, and all seemed to be well, then today when I came home my :apple:TV wouldn't respond to the paired remote. Went and got another Apple remote (from my MacBook), and tried it -- the LED on the front flashed amber, which is normal for an unpaired remote. Then I noticed that the paired remote would cause the LED, which was dimly glowing white, to go blank when you pressed a button.

Tried to unpair the remote by holding 'Menu' and '<<' on my laptop's remote, but no joy. Then I tried 'resetting' the :apple:TV by cycling the power (unplugging the power cable). :apple:TV looked like it was restarting, but never gave the startup movie and now seems totally dead. What I get now is the LED on the :apple:TV glows white dimly, and goes blank if I push any button on either remote, but that's it.

I'm afraid it's just dead, but if anyone's got any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks.

Left it unplugged overnight, then tried plugging it in (to power) this morning. The LED flashes amber (normal startup sequence) for a while, then goes out. Nothing on the TV screen.

If I press 'Menu' and '-' on the paired remote (to restart) I get the amber flashing LED again (so it is seeing the remote and responding), but the outcome is the same as above: the LED goes out and nothing shown on the TV.

I suspect the 2.3.1 update messed me up. Anyone know how I can totally re-initialize the :apple:TV?

After messing around with it a while more, re-seated the HDMI cable and it came back to life. Seems all is good.

This happened to me a day or so back, scared the crap out of me. It would just blink amber, unplugged it and plugged it back in...still amber. I don't know what happened, but it eventually just came back on.

+1.

I half thought I had the wrong remote for it, so I unpaired and repaired the remote and that seemed to sort it.
