I got ahold of a 3.0 beta firmware 2 for my iPhone 2G and updated. It was a pain, but I finally got it to work. Everything worked just fine, except that I lost use of my wifi. My network will show up every once in awhile, but when I click on it, it usually won't connect and if it does, it just disconnects a couple seconds later.
I downgraded back to 2.2.1 assuming this would fix the wifi problem, but it's still there. I have done everything I can think of to fix this, but nothing has worked. I rest network settings, and even downgraded to 1.1.4 so I could downgrade the baseband (thinking that might have been affected with the 3.0 firwmare) and then restored to 2.2.1. Still nothing. I NEED HELP!!

Have you tried resetting your router by chance sometimes this happens to me and the problem is the router and not the phone try that.

Thanks for the advice, but I have already tried that with no luck. My wife has an iPhone as well, and hers works just fine on my home network. Plus, I tried my phone on several different wireless networks with no luck. I didn't ever have this problem until right when I upgrades to 3.0 beta firmware.

wait a minute, did your baseband downgrade?

Is it an official copy of the software or is it downloaded illegaly
could be corrupt

Corrupt? Hmm.. has anyone here heard of a corrupt firmware that stops you from using wifi? I know that's really common, but has anyone else other than benjm1995 heard of corrupt firmwares that disables wifi? Anyone?

At first I thought maybe the baseband upgraded when I upgraded to OS 3.0, so that's why I purposely downgraded to 1.1.4 to downgrade the baseband via KiPhone. It didn't help, and I found out that on the iPhone 2G (what I have) the baseband doesn't upgrade with OS 3.0

Obviously it's not official 'cause I'm not an Apple developer. Everything did work fine though, minus the wifi. Assuming it was corrupt firmware, I would assume restoring to 2.2.1 would fix the problem if it was just corrupt firmware. Obviously something else is going on here, and I'm not even sure if it's related to the OS 3.0 or just so happened to quit working at the same time.

you could try restore your iphone again to see if that helps

I couldn't even tell you how many times I've restored my phone since this happened. 5+ if not 10 times or more. The weird thing is, every once in awhile, if I reboot the phone the wifi will work fine until I unplug it from the USB cord. Really weird. That symptom didn't manifest itself until after I posted this thread. Other than that, it doesn't even show networks that it should be picking up.

Not that anyone is necessarily following this post or anything, but thought I'd just let everyone know that I have found out that the wifi problem is NOT related to the 3.0 beta firmware. It's just a problem that coinsidentally reared it's face when I updated to 3.0. It turns out I am suffering from an all too common problem where my battery heats up to the point it shuts off my wifi. The only way to fix this is to stick it in the freezer for 15 minutes so it'll cool off. I would take it into Apple, but I'm with Tmobile and I here they won't service anybody that doesn't have AT&T. Hopes this helps someone.

Well, not that

You got Apple Care?

I'm still under warranty, yes but I'm a Tmobile user, so Apple refuses to service or replace my phone. Pretty gay, especially since I didn't cause the problem.
I'm just gonna lay low and deal with it until this summer when they supposedly come out with the new iPhone. Then I'll just switch over to AT&T and get a legit phone.
