I just updated to a new 3GS phone, from 1st Gen, and I lost every app I downloaded directly to my old iPhone from the App Store.

I know I can redownload them for free, but having to figure out which apps they were and go through the whole "purchase, 'you already purchased, do you wish to redown?" junk for dozen or so apps doesn't sound like fun.

Is there anyway to get those apps back onto my iPhone in mass? The "check for avail downloads" options does not work.

I always wondered what would happen to apps I've directly downloaded to my iPhone over the years, since they never actually show up in my Applications list on iTunes. Guess I know know ... they are lost in the black abyss.

Not to be funny, but are you absolutely positive you lost them? There have been multiple posts by people who swore their apps were gone, when in reality they were pushed back onto later pages. Even if it's to humor some random woman on a MR, just swipe right and keep swiping until you get to the last page, just to make sure.

Ha. I can understand the hesitation, but yes. They are gone. Two in particular are TweetDeck and FML. They were on my front page, but now gone. I even used the new Spotlight feature, no luck in finding them.

There are others gone, too. I compared the apps with my old phone, and sure enough, every app I could identify missing I had downlaoded directly to my phone.

As a matter of fact, in comparing the page dots, I'm missing an entire page of apps. I didn't notice it until now. The spotlight icon gave the impression of 5 pages, when there are only four.

What happens when you connect your old iPhone to iTunes, control click, and select Transfer Purchases?

Good question. I forgot about that option. I'll try that when I get into work. I'll let you know the outcome. Thanks.

Didn't work. I see it copying my apps. It says "Trasnferring Purchases from "1984". Copying <app name>." (1984 is the name of my iPhone). But the app doesn't show in my Applications list. And they don't show up on the new iPhone.

I gave up and just went through all the missing apps and downloaded them to my iTunes. This way they will always be there.

Anybody know how to get apps I download on my phone to show up in itunes' application list?
