Every time my girlfriend has updated her iPhone (3.0, 3.1, etc, going way back) it has caused her iPhone/computer to freeze up, crash, lose all info, etc. The only way she can fix things is to restore the iPhone to factory settings and then restore her info from a backup. What should be a simple update procedure turns into a 4 hour fiasco.

This has happened with each iPhone OS update without fail.

She's running iTunes on a Windows machine. Besides that... I can't figure out any reason why this would be happening. She always updates iTunes first, keeps the latest version of iTunes, etc. It's just that when she attempts to update her iPhone OS that things go to pot.

Does anyone have an idea of why this happens? Is there a known problem with updating iPhones on Windows? Maybe a problem with her computer? Am I missing something? Things work smooth as silk for me when I update on my iMac.
