Updates Rant

it seems that since i have downloaded and installed the last 2 updates within the past week, my mac has started beach-balling all the time! i have done nothing nor installed anything but iChat, iTunes, Mail, and Safari seems to start beachballing and becoming non responsive. Why Apple, Why!

anyways, I've cleaned all the caches, repaired permissions, and just about everything else i can think of (except uninstalling the updates, which i have no idea how to do)....

any suggestions, this is getting really ridiculous...I really don't want to reinstall b/c of all the stuff that I have on the computer (gigs of files and music) and backing up will take forever, especially with all the slowdowns and beach-balls and programs becoming unresponsive...

Duff-Man says....Well, I (and countless others) have not had the problem you are having so it is not systematic. You've already tried the first few easy steps (permissions, caches etc) so try something else now to see if the problem can be tracked down - create another user account and see if the problems exist there too, then we'll be able to see if its the system or just something with your account....oh yeah!

i guess my preferences were corrupted? using a different user on the system (i already had a few) showed no beachballing or anything like on my user account...I don't understand how preferences could get corrupted, but ok...i simply moved everything to share and deleted the user, made a new one and moved everything back and everything is working fine now...

Wouldn't it be easier just to delete some of the preference files?

Wow, i wish i had thought of that before (duh!) i did that drastic move, but it only took about a hour so no biggy...plus i had a lot of my preferences and stuff on my iDisk so all i had to do is import it back to the recreated user. The preferences i imported back were before the updates so if that was what actually caused the problem I was reassured.

also, i wasn't sure what preferences were even causing the problem...and i did try overwriting all the preferences with the one's from the iDisk, but it didn't help...so really, i'm not even sure if it is a preference problem, but oh well

Well I'm glad you got that taken care of!

If that were happening to me, I don't know what I'd do.

I'll use this for future references.
