Updates stuck "Waiting"

Today my 4S told me via app store i had two updates...

One for NAVFREE & the other Asphalt 6.

Usually I never get a problem with updates, however, this time its stuck on 'Waiting' and doing nothing.

Ive tried a reset three times, I've tried it on its own and docked via iTunes, I've tried deleting and reinstalling, Ive checked my memory space. ( 4 gigs left )

And 4 hours later, Its still "Waiting"

Any ideas folks?

I actually tried to update zombieville usa 2 and when I tap update it doesnt do anything..

I'm having the same exact issue. I have no access to a PC to connect my iPhone 4S to, and none of the other solutions I've found online fix this. I've got 8 APPS that are in "Waiting" mode right now, and no idea how to reset them back so I can actually use them. When I try launch any of them, they just change from "Waiting" to "Paused". I've rebooted my iPhone several times, tried changing the language, turned on and off the Cellular data. There is no wi-fi near me, so my only option is to use 3G.

ANY help would be appreciated! I can't use some apps that I use daily until this gets fixed...

When this happened to me, it ended up being because of the way iDevices may automatically download new iTunes purchases, if you have iCloud features enabled.

For example, say you have a season pass to a TV show, and you get a notification that a new episode is available, so you start downloading on your computer. Depending on your configuration (and whether you're on WiFi), your iPhone may also start downloading the new episode without you even realizing it.

It turns out that iOS has only one download queue for both apps and iTunes content. So if there is a 2 GB download pending in your iTunes app, that's what the app downloads are waiting for.

Open the iTunes app on your iTunes device and find the Downloads section. If there is anything listed there, pause or remove it.

If that isn't it, then my only other idea would be to completely delete and re-download the apps.

It turned out that it wasn't any automatically downloading content, but last night I had tried to download an episode of a podcast. When I went into iTunes on the iPhone (which I almost never do) there it was, sitting in the downloads, trying to start... I deleted it from the queue and the updates started up immediately.

Wow, I have been Googling this all morning and this is the first real solution, at least for me. Thanks again!!

Just to add my experience to the list: a few days ago I downloaded an album (using the iTunes app on my phone) that had a music video with it. The songs downloaded but the video failed to download for whatever reason. I ignored it at the time.

A day or so later I went to download a new app. It sat waiting. (Having never seen a "waiting" status of an app download, I tapped the app only to discover that I could "pause" the download which I never knew before. Yay for learning!) I figured the Wifi was simply AWOL and switched to 3G. At that point I got modal popup saying that blah blah blah video was too large and wouldn't be downloaded (since I was on the cell network). OK great, dismissed that message, and then the app downloaded.

Had simply no idea that the video download was clogging the queue, so to speak, blocking further downloads.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It's kind of ironic how many people have been stymied by something that is ostensibly a "feature."

Apple should probably tweak the UI to better reflect what is going on behind the scenes.
