iPhone updating a 5.0.1 jailbroken phone to ios6.

is it possible to update it through wifi to ios6, ie going to settings, then updating it just like that? will it mess up the phone? i mean i know it will get rid of the jailbreak but will that work as a quick way of jailbreaking the phone?

I did it to my 4S and it didn't work for me . I had to connect it to my mac and update through there. I mean you can try it for convenience sake but if it doesn't work you can try the latter.

thanks, what happened when you tried it? it didnt mess up the phone or take away any of your saved data did it?

It won't work and will error out.

JB devices need to be updated through iTunes, is a well known issue

When I tried it all that happened is my phone had the spinning circle forever. I had to do a hard reset and then it booted up normally. No data lost and it was still jailbroken.
