How do I go about updating my hardware and video card to make sure the blue flashing screen on Sims Life Stories will work properly?

You don't. You can give it more RAM, but that's it.

Sadly, iMac video cards are not upgradeable. However, any graphical artifacts or problems are likely the cause of software, not hardware.

I would recommend making sure that your game is completely updated to the latest version as well as your copy of Mac OSX.
