I am soon to get an iPhone 4S that is on 5.1.1 (user did not want to update). I want to jailbreak it using the new Evasi0n tool, however I noticed Apple patched the exploit it used in the latest version (6.1.3). I want to upgrade to an iOS 6 version before 6.1.3 (6.1.2, 6.1.1, 6.1, or 6.0). Notice I am not downgrading OS, simply upgrading but not to a current version. Of course when I go into iTunes, it wants me to use 6.1.3.

If I use a downloaded IPSW and the Shift-click trick (does that even work anymore? Last time I jailbroke was a long time ago.) Will that work?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
William

No, you can not install any of those versions of iOS 6 on the 4S. You can only install the latest firmware, which obviously isnt an option. Not sure if you know this but you can jailbreak 5.1.1. One of the most stable jailbreaks ever in my opinion. You can use Absinthe or Redsnow to jailbreak it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I had thought of simply jailbreaking iPhone 5.1.1. I thought I would be missing some things (some features, tweaks, etc), but I just thought of it now, tweaks will be more compatible with iOS 5, and I'm not really missing anything down at iOS 6 land. Thank you, I will simply use Absinthe or Redsn0w.

You're welcome. Yea there's nothing too crazy happening on iOS6. iOS5 will still be fun.
