ok I have no clue really how to do this, I have seen a few tutorials on here but was wondering which I follow. I had the original iphone on 1.1.4 and want to update to 2????

Please help

I believe the easiest way is:
(1) Make sure you have latest version of iTunes.
(2) Update to 2.2 through iTunes.
(3) Jailbreak with one of the "pwn" programs.

This would, however, involve restoring twice. I've heard you can combine steps 2&3 into one step if you use pwnage tool, thus having to restore only once, but that procedure sounded a bit complicated to me.

hey to upgrade to 2.2 for free find an 2.2 ispw on the internet and download it go into itunes shift click update locate the downloaded ispw and it should update from that if that doesnt work then shift click restore and then locate 2.2 ispw and it will use that firmware to update and you have 2.2.

of course you will have to JB twice if you want it jailbroken again.

ok cheers for the help so i update with itunes which im assuming will lock my phone then i need to jailbreak to use any gsm again? what did you mean by breaking twice? and is jailbreaking easy...advice on this please

actualy it was a typo when i said JB twice :p i just realized my miastake haha

you need to update/restore once to the 2.x so that you can jailbreak

I have tried jailbreaking a ipod touch from a 1.1.4 FW to a 2.2 FW without updating but i had no luck.
