Running update of MS Office: Mac 2008 and my fans were running 6400+rpm and temperature ran as high as 184 degrees. Any similar experiences? This situation was definitely the hottest my MBA had ever been and the loudest my fan has ever been...

Though I'm LMAO right about now, you got me thinking...

My computer did that yesterday too!! While downloading the update, CPU usage was over 50% and temps were at around 55ºC. I spent about an hour searching for solutions, so it's a funny coincidence I ran across your thread.

Anyone else have it happen to them?

I have been in Entourage and Powerpoint all day without issue....

What are you specifically doing in Office to create these temps?

If the problem was only during the update, then no I did not experience it.

I was updating the Office 12.1.3 and that was it. I've been working with FCP HD the past two weeks, editing some video clips and burning DVDs, but the temperature never went above 141 degrees Fahrenheit/61 degrees Celsius nor did the Fan go above 2400rpm. So, to see 184 degrees Fahrenheit/85 degrees Celsius and +6400rpm, for a rather simple update is a bit scary...
